muffled sound coming from subs

Ok thanks a lot. I really appreciate your help. I had them hooked up right if that is the case. I guess my ground is the problem. If that doesn't fix it I will have to get a new amp. Oh by the way, do you know how to tell if a sub is blown. If my subs were blown, would they make any kind of noise like the one I described?
Oh and was I correct when I hooked the black rca cable to the red jack, and the white rca cable to the white jack?
My subs did that because my HU wasn't grounded very good, I took the ground wire that goes to the HU(Black wire) and just ran it right into the frame(with paint sanded off of course) on the floor next to me lol.

Really? Because my HU came with a ground wire that had a metal ring connector on it. I cut that off and spliced it into the black ground wire that went to the factory unit. I might try that too thanks.

Your head unit is not the cause if the subs make noise with the RCA's disconnected.

Ok so I fixed the ground real good. Sanded it down as much as I could, and put a washer in between the screw and the ring terminal. I'm still getting the muffled wierd sounds from the subs. Everything is connected the way it should as I now know. I'm pretty sure its the amp. But I wanted to know something. I have a 200 watt 2-channel p200.2 rockford amp hooked to my 2 back 6x9's. Could I possibly try hooking the massive 100watt p1000.1 to my 2 6x9's to see if it is really the amp? I thought about doing that, but my 6x9's are nowhere near the power the subs are of course, and I don't want to blow them by hooking up an amp that is 100watts. Will that cause the 6x9's to blow?

It was the amp. Don't know what's wrong with the amp, but it is messed up. I hooked that up to the rear 6x9's which were working on the other amp, and the speakers were putting out this crazy high frequency sound that I can't explain. Guess I gotta buy another one. That sucks ***, but at least I'm sure my subs aren't blown. Thanks for all your help everyone. I really appreciate it.
