muffled sound coming from subs

I just wired a massive 1000watt 2-channel amp and 2 12" Orion woofers yesterday. I have a alpine cd105 HU. I'm positive everything is connected correctly, but when I turn on the HU a muffled sound comes from the woofers. This continues whether i turn the volume to 0 or anything else on the HU. The amp powers up with no protection light on. The RCA input connectors I used have black and white dual connectors, so i connected black with the red jack and white with the white jack on the amp. I connected the black with the red woofer jack and the white with the white woofer jack on my HU. What could possibly be the problem. The only thing I can think is that it is a bad ground connection. Would the subs produce any bass at all if the ground to the amp was a bad connection? Thanks in advance for any help.

just try with out the RCAs, and see if the woofers still have that noise. if it does than you have a problem on youe amp. could be the ground.

if not try changing yor rca's

I actually did already unplug the RCA's and the sound still came from the subs with the speaker wires connected. Hopefully its the ground, because I didn't scrape all the paint totally off the metal in the trunk like I should've. I just scraped some with a screwdriver and drilled a hole in the trunk for a screw. Should I maybe attach the ground cable somewhere else? Thanks.

Also, on the Massive amp, I'm a little confused as to which channel is which. There are 4 speaker connections of course. The two on the left are both - connections, and the two on the right are both + connections. The way I connected the subs was I connected the left sub to the leftmost - and leftmost + connection on the amp. And the right sub to the rightmost - and rightmost + connection. Am I doing this right, or should I use the outside - and + for one sub, and the inside - and + for the other?

if thats the case then its not a 2 channel amp its a mono amp that has 4 connections ,to plug 2 separate speaker wires

if you have the massive audio DB 1000 its only able to run at 2 ohms

and if you have dual 2 ohm speakers conected ++ and -- than you have 2 ohm reading each sub, than connecting it to the amp as you did you have finall 1 ohm readin to the amp.

try first connecting only one sub.

whats the model of your amp???

Here is a link to the manual

http://www.massiveaudio.com/manuals/ProSeriesAmplifiers.pdf

I had this system professionally installed in my old car. I bought a new car and didn't want to pay $150 again. I pulled all the cables from my old car so I had a good idea of how things were run. And I've been learning a lot on the net. But I totally forgot how they had the speaker wires connected to the subs. The manual says the amp can run 2 ohm minimum on a 2 speaker mono configuration. Both my subs are 2 ohm. I don't really understand what the 2 speaker mono means though. The system worked before, so I know it will work if connected correctly.

Ok here's the manual

http://www.directeddealers.com/manuals/og/orion/27500_05_11_BP_HPD2.pdf

now that I read it a little bit, i don't really know if they are 2 ohm or not. The manual says 2 ohm x 2. So are the speakers both 2 ohm. Hell I don't know.

You know what. This is the manual that came with the box I bought. But the manual isn't talking about the woofers. Its' talking about the box. I bought the woofers already installed in the box. Guess I'm gonna have to take a sub out and look at the back of it. I'm on lunch now so I'm gonna go do that lol.

Well if you bought that specific box with included woffers. The first diagram is how you want to hook it up. Put both speakers positive wire on the positive connector on the amp, and the same for negative.

OK i get that, but if the speaker connections on the amp look like

- - + +

would i hook the left sub up to the left - and left + and then the right sub up to the right - and right +? Or would I hook one sub to the left - and right +, and the other to the right - and left +? Kinda silly probably.

Doesn't matter as long as + is on + and - is on -.

The speaker connection on the amp is bridged. They only do this to make it easy to hook up 2 speakers on a mono amp.

Ok thanks a lot. I really appreciate your help. I had them hooked up right if that is the case. I guess my ground is the problem. If that doesn't fix it I will have to get a new amp. Oh by the way, do you know how to tell if a sub is blown. If my subs were blown, would they make any kind of noise like the one I described?

Oh and was I correct when I hooked the black rca cable to the red jack, and the white rca cable to the white jack?
