Mounting Depth help

The mounting Depth of my 18" Kove Armageddon U2 is 9.5 Inches. What is the minimum amount of depth, in inches, the box can be? because I read somewhere before you have to have at least, a certain amount of room behind the magnet for the sub to function properly. Does anyone know the least amount needed? would it be like 3-4 inches? I am working with a rather small trunk.

Does that sub have a pole vent?

IIRC, you should leave about 4" behind a pole vent. If it's a solid pole then it shouldn't matter, as long as the box is not flexing and causing the panel to hit the bottom plate, as that would sound terrible.

To be truly honest im not sure what a pole vent is exactly. but this is the back of the Kove

^^ x2

I read that you need however many inches the diameter of the vent is of clearance. I have a Treo SSX 15'' and I had it right at the back board of the box and after a few weeks its just busted the board off and sounded horrible until I ran more screws into it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

lol ok cool. and yeah sister sub basically. so alright. 3 Inches is what im shooting for. its gonna be a tight squeeze! I only have 18" of height in my trunk. lol

Thats true. I was thinking of that however like i said im working with a rather small trunk, and the way im thinking now is that i may have to have sub up instead of facing front because of the space issues.

Is that a question or are you telling me that? and to be truly honest, It's my first time building a box so I am really not 100% positive on what I'm doing. I'm just trying to figure out a way i can fit it in because my back seat does not fold down so I have to slide it in through the trunk opening which is killing me with how deep it can be. too long and it will only ever fit halfway in. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

you can build it into your trunk. just use wood glue and bracing and you wont even need to get a drill in there.

lay down some covering to protect interior. put wood in piece by piece. build. brace. pull out covering.

or fire sub up. if you fire it up i recommend at least a little bit of sound deadening on trunk lid. shuld only cost ~20$ to cover it decently

I have a double layer of fat mat on my trunk lid and one layer around the trunk. and glue alone would seriously hold it up just fine? with 2500 RMS? sounds to me like it will break apart on the first hit.

if you face the sub fwd, you will want so put sub and port fwd, and seal the trunk off from the cabin. otherwise, pointing sub and port back is the best for trunk cars
