motorcycle guys enter

what about good riding gear? i was looking at alpinestars stuff but they were a little expensive...
No idea on gear, never bought the stuff. I would guess a motorcycle forum would be a great place to get info for this as well. Might even get into a group buy or a discounted purchase from a forum vendor. Great place to save some scratch.

Yeah, you guys are gonna get this kid killed. Do yourself a favor and take the MSF course before you buy a bike.
I highly reccomend this... take the course.

I cant believe how much I learned, and it was fun as well.

as for a starter bike, I would go with a smaller cc cruiser if your into that, or a 600 cc sport tourer. something like a kawasaki zzr600, suzuki gsf500( not sure on model), suzuki gsx-650f....

look at the buell blast, its a 492cc single, that's kinda slow but looks good, handles VERY well and is easy to learn on. best thing is they are freakin tanks, parts are cheap and easy to replace so when you drop it you won't be salty

http://www.kneedraggers.com is where I buy most of my stuff.

http://www.newenough.com good prices, decent selection.

http://www.denniskirk.com FAST shipping, price match other websites.

http://www.helmetshop.com or http://www.helmetharbor.com for lids.

Icon - blingin gear, usually more style than protection. they do have some good stuff though.

A* - great gear, decent price. http://www.r6messagenet.com used to have big group deals every couple months.

Shoei and Arai are the best helmets, but also the most expensive.

emmm other than that, i would look at the above sites to find something you like. make sure to use your local shop to try it on though :p everything should be snug, but not tight.

at the least i ride with a helmet, jacket, and gloves. I usually don't wear riding pants, but i do wear jeans. textile jackets **** for protection, but they are better than nothing. those 90+ days in chicago traffic and leather gets nasty.

ok well i talked to my dad today and he suggested i take the MSF course and then get a 750...until i told him i was getting a crotch rocket..he said that id be bored with the 250 within a month...so should i take the msf course and just get the bike i want but get it used? keeping in mind most of my riding will be done with him most of the time until i get comfortable...

Dude, you should really be on a motorcycle forum asking these questions, its way too obvious alot of these guys have never even rode a bike much less own one. But there are a few on here which has givin you some decent advice.

The ones telling you you are going to lay it over probably should never get on a bike to begin with. I have been riding off-road and street for 25 years never laid one over YET, knock on wood ( except for a 3 wheeler slamming in to me at a track 20 years ago). Accidents can and probably will happen thats comes with riding a motorcycle. You just have to ride it with respect and not try to be billy bad *** and show off for everyone on your scooter.

Crotch-Rockets are for the young and Harleys are for the men. Ride them both and you will want a Harley from the get-go. Good luck and be careful.
