i am using the single aaarrrggghhh right now until we finish building the sealed off enclosure in my trunk. My trunk is too small for my dual 12 box. I hate having just one, but i have to for about another month.and im not trying to be a dick, i actually enjoy alot of your posts endofdays, always good for a laugh. OT but what made you switch to 1 type R? ive always preffered single subs but if i had 2 matching subs i think id preffer to use both of em.
just to prove im righti have a ton of caps here at the house. You said it made your componets sound better? Thats cool, because i thought caps just stored the base energy.
OMG! I did say that, what the hell. I didn't even have components back then. WOW, just WOW.just to prove im right

id say its worth it. I had a customer that had 3 sealed 10's. I built him a box for 1 ported 10 and he told me it sounded just as loud as the 3 he had earlier. Same subs btwpointless thing to do because it wouldn't be worth it. How bout he just buys a better amp or subs and gets more power the real way? Not hatin, just sayin.
Consider you can design a box that'll make your sub more efficient ie,use full excursion & gain ~3 db's. Now, thats before tuning. If wanted, tuning could well surpass 3 db gains in & of itself. In short, power is overrated & NOT the best way to get loud. HeII, doubling power to get ~3 db's...I've seen 3 db's gained w/ a good amount of deadening.like i said, just get a better amp and better subs. Best way to get louder.
how have you SEEN double the power just by deadening? I am not saying your wrong, but i can't believe that.Consider you can design a box that'll make your sub more efficient ie,use full excursion & gain ~3 db's. Now, thats before tuning. P.S. The consensus that double power = 3 db's is theoretical. In real life applications (ie, resistance, etc.) it's likely even less.
You misunderstood hbis point. To be fair, he was a bit vague.how have you SEEN double the power just by deadening? I am not saying your wrong, but i can't believe that.
great post!! thanks man. well this thursday I am having my entire car sound deadened from my front doors, rear deck, whole trunk, ect with Dynamat Extreme( I know there is better and cheaper deadener, but this is what was easiest to get) I am also having the Big 3 done along with my Kinetik 1800 battery put in. Hopefully this will help beef up my electrical, right?? and maybe my ears will perceive more bass because of the dynamat. You misunderstood hbis point. To be fair, he was a bit vague.
In theory you could lower the ambient noise floor in your vehicle by, say 3db, by adding a substantial amount of sound deadening. This is then translated as needing 3db less output from your stereo to receive the same perceived volume to your ears. Less noise = more music at any given stereo system output level.
There are many ways to increase output level without increasing system power. The most obvious being seek out more efficient subwoofers.
The next being buy/build a more efficient box. That may be a higher tuned ported box, or even a bandpass system. Check into your vehicle's transfer function and tune accordingly. But be warned, some of these options can lead to a very loud system, but not very musical (one note wonder).
You could also try firing the subs and/or ports in a different direction by building experimental boxes, talking to other owners the same vehicle who have tried, or if possible simply moving your current box around to find the desired results.
Another possible option is make sure your charging system is allowing your full 800 watts to be used. Be sure you dont have any voltage dropping bottlenecks, high resistance connections, or undersized/too long of wire runs. Make your charging system as efficient as possible.
Another possibility is upgrading your front stage. A stronger midbass presence from the front allows the low pass filter on the subs to be turned down, thereby sending more of your amplifier's wattage to the lowest octaves rather than trying to play midbass.
There are plenty of other possibilities to increase bass with the same wattage, that's just the most obvious few off the top of my head. One last warning, learn Hoffman's Iron Law. It can and will play a role in many of these choices, and you should understand how it will apply.
Sounds like you are on the right track. The big 3 is always recommended, an nice aftermarket battery is always a good idea, and sound deadening will help more than just your bass response. All are sound choices, no pun intended.great post!! thanks man. well this thursday I am having my entire car sound deadened from my front doors, rear deck, whole trunk, ect with Dynamat Extreme( I know there is better and cheaper deadener, but this is what was easiest to get) I am also having the Big 3 done along with my Kinetik 1800 battery put in. also: do you know some really good subs that are extremely effecient?
lastly: does anyone on here have or has had a 4 door Honda Accord Sedan that has some tricks to do to gain some spl??
thanks so much!
