Why did you have to quote the whole thing lol....

Lots of good info though.

It's given that you must learn what your are doing before doing it------- You can do something as simple as change the timing on a stock motor and blow it up-

people are just afraid of nitrous because of all the hype around it.......... it works the same exact way as turbos and superchargers-------------adding air ----------- so you can add more fuel and that = HP
yes it adds air, but it adds it through explosions, not just by *******/forcing more air into the engine.

Lol...yeah...I second that. How about you make it into a small 4 sentence paragraph //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

And you really don't need to know what your doing before you add something. That's what mechanics and Race Shops get paid for //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif They just tell you how to use it right if you get it installed by a shop.

And don't forget that S/C's and T/C's also bump up your compression...recessed pistons are a must on higher PSI systems.

this doesn't actually make more power, but it will better use the power you have. if you get an aluminum driveshaft, it weighs less and gets rid of some of the parasitic loss of the drivetrain. this could possibly "add" upwards of 5hp on some cars, like mine. on most new cars though, it shouldn't add this much, considering they probably already have an aluminum driveshaft.

what do u all think of this? anyone know any tricks that can be done to this engine?

any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

thanks,

Dustin

Removable chips are no more in the 4.3's after '96,you'll have to get a "piggyback".

The Power Programmer III is not worth the money unless you plan on changing tire diameters and/or rear gears a lot.

For tons of info go to http://www.s10planet.com.........I'm a moderator there (same screen name as here) so holler at me if you go.

YoU jUsT nEeD V-TEC yO!

no just playin...

but **** did i get in this thread late.... i was just browsing the forums... and after i saw the one dude arguing with chris229 sayin that more power doesnt mean higher cylinder pressures i ended up registering with the forum just to back up what chris was sayin....and after writing a loooooong post about why chris was right, i realized there were another 4 pages of posts.......

but i agree with mrray that the best and cheapest way to increase power would prolly be getting rid of the ol fan clutch.... cuz god knows intake and exhaust are a waste of money on *most* cars... but on the downside to the electrics... you cant pull into taco bell on sat nights and show off the electric fans to the racecar honda civic guys with the big mufflers and stickers... where you could with that shiny new intake that cost you 200 bucks.

as much as i like blazers.... just like any car-power costs money, and as u said you wanted something cheap...bad news is there arent any miracle power gainers for your car that can be had for almost free. i know vortech sells a supercharger kit for the 4.3, i was watchin trucks the other day and they installed it....but thats very expensive-end result was i think 40 or 50 horses at the wheels if i remember right...still wont turn a blazer into a racecar.

if you want somethin faster for cheap..i would say the only feasible alternative would be to trade it in for a sports car....either way...good luck with your quest

the 'nitrous' doesnt burn to produce more HP, the oxygen that breaks off of the oxygen molecule burns. because the oxygen ratio is greater when you use nitrous than normal air, more fuel can burn faster, creating more horepowers

HOWEVER, a 150 shot of nitrous would heat an engine more than a supercharger adding 150 HP.

this is because while a supercharger increases the amount of air that the engine recieves, a shot of nitrous only increases the amount of oxygen

when you use a shot of nitrous, the ratio of nitrogen to air stays the same. "so what? nitrogen doesnt combust at engine temperatureburn in an engine"

BUT nitrogen is very important because is an inert gas, it carries heat from the engine out the exhaust.

so, nitrous adds more oxygen, while a supercharger, intake, etc add both more oxygen and more nitrogen and inert gases.

they both increase the temperature the same amount, but the more traditional, non-nitrous applications counteract the heat increase somewhat.

as for the original question, i say get some lighter rims.
i have to congradulate you on knowing more than most people do about nitrous. most people think that it's only good for blowing up an engine, it's called NAWS, and only ricers use it. yes, nitrous does make an engine lean unless fuel is added in either through an external fuel solenoid or by bumping up the fuel pressure. nitrous works on the basis that the oxygen content in the air (in MI at least) is about 21%, and nitrous is N20, making oxygen 33% instead. although you are mistaken in one area. superchargers and nitrous are different, and they can make the same amount of hp gains, but they both don't end up at the same temp. superchargers compress air, hence the gauges that read positive psi. as we all learned in science class, when you compress a gas, it heats up, one of the reasons why people who run more than 8psi generally have some sort of intercooler (air/air, air/water) to help cool the intake charge before it gets to the combustion chambers. nitrous, on the other hand, is a liquid in the tank, and when a liquid turns to a gas (learned in science class again), it cools very rapidly. next time you go cooking something on your bbq, feel your propane tank. you may see ice on it depending on how much of it you use. as such, injecting nitrous into an engine drops the intake charge dramatically, more-so than any intercooler can. my friend's old car was an 89 mustang lx. he ran a supercharger, AND nitrous. the reason? not for the awesome power additive of the nitrous, he was already in the 9's (1/4mile) with just the supercharger, but his temp read 120 before the 1/4 mile, and around 400 afterwards (yes 400 degrees F, with no intercooling). with a 75hp shot of nitrous mixed in there, he was back down to 200 after the 1/4 mile. of course, now he's sold that car, bought an 01 stang, and i'm helping him build it into a 7 sec car. his new engine should be built by may, due to some lack of funding (a $40,000 engine isn't something most people can just fork over money for).

anyone know any tricks that can be done to this engine?
match flow the ports, cc the combustion chambers, coat anything you can think of, balance the pistons and rods, index the plugs, keep your pinion angle as low *** possible, bull nose the crank, larger valves, debur the block and cylinder head, port the intake manifold, blue print the crank

jesus h. christ, this thread is almost 2 years old, check the date before you post n00b
you calling me a n00b? if you are, be smart and use your own advice, check the join dates, it seems to me that 12-28-2003 is after 08-22-2002, making you the n00b. i noticed the thread date and posted anyways because what i had to say had nothing to deal with the original post. i just had to clear up some facts. if you weren't talking to me, eh, whatever:)
