Mini Computer Speakers

These are some computer speakers I just started working on to send with my gf this summer to Spain. I'm using some 1" "full range" Tangband speakers from PE. I have yet to test them so I don't really know how they'll sound. They're going to be powered by one or two of these JBL 12 watt amplifiers. I may redo them before she leaves but I'm liking how they've turn out sofar. Working with such tiny cuts is really a pita.

The amp box(es) will probably be mdf too, maybe with an acryllic or aluminum face panel for any switches/dials/in/outputs. I'm not really sure how I want to paint these.

3/4" was all I had laying around. Haven't used anything else since my first box. The volume is probably a little more than 2.6in^3. I've never really done anything this small... so hopefully they'll sound decent. It's kinda fun working on such a small scale, though.

I wish I knew how they sound, but I'm still waiting on the amp(s) and don't have any stereos small enough that I'd feel safe powering them. I did have a cannibalized cheapo computer speaker amp to test them but I would up blowing the The amps are on their way from ApexJR. Hopefully it'll be enough power, but I may just wind up going with the $30 PE t-amp the next time I order stuff from them.

Dunno... I think they left today w/ USPS.

I am wondering, however, if you can wire full range speakers in parallel for a lower impedance. I'm not really worried about stereo separation, but not sure what kind signal I'll be sending to them. I don't want both playing just the right or left channel.

These required about 0 planning. So that never really crossed my mind.

The amps got here today suprisingly. I got the two sides cut for the amp box. I'm kind of worried about heat but I'll see how it goes. The front and back are going to be made from some 1/8" lexan that I have. If I can find a good voltage source I'll light it up with leds.

The right output is in the little white plug, so I'm going to (hopefully) glue this cannibalized 3.5mm plug in the empty space.

I think I'm going to paint them blue... it's how I've been seeing them in my head for a while.

that is freaking sweet! i'm about to upgrade my computer speakers in hopes of connecting to my tv if i get one in a few months. how much is this setup running you?
