Mid 80s Car Help

I have a mid 80s car using period correct head unit (mainly to keep it looking correct), car has 4 speakers (LF/RF/LR/RR), but the radio only has 6 wires out (+ for each speaker and a - for the left side and - for the right side). I installed modern speakers, and want to add a sub that I have laying around.

Here is my dilemma....

Radio out has 6 wires, LOC takes 8 wires in. Do I simply split say the left negative and hook it up to both the LF and LR negative input on the LOC and then do the same for the right side?


Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, just split the negative speakr wires. Good luck.

Joke. The iso radio is receiving the correct voltage on the iso. 4 speakers, just that you want a sub. Obviously when you add the sub, u’ll lose a speaker or two. If you don’t need the two speakers, leave it.

I read it in a book. Where the person changed the iso wiring. But still connected the factory with 4 speakers working. The sub added will change all of it. Something to do with bi-polar transistor NP or PN transistors are set up. All of it are in the active mode and working. Just that with fewer wires, the iso takes the radio into a lower voltage mode. Cutoff mode. Putting the radio into another mode to accept the subwoofer added. Via one amp added or just a mid-bass filter to the radio. But it’s the way it is.

When I get my radio working in full force I’ll show it to you. How this works. Rear fill or just two front fill working. I need to buy two non-polarized capacitors to get it on yet. So still waiting. Just another walk in the park, Kazatzki.​

Was Jimmy said, split the negative. I had to do this in my 84 300zx.

Sounds like the radio outputs are ground referenced (VERY old school). Gotta think about this one...

I would have checked with PAC.com to see if they had an amplifier integration harness for my model and year car. Crutchfield.com sells their harnesses, also. My second option would have been to get the audio signal for the amplifier from the rear speaker.
