Metalwork help

I'm looking to make an amp rack that will hang the amp in the air solely by metal brackets hung from the bottom of the rear dashboard (space purposes).

What's my best bet as far as using a metal that is both easy to work with (these brackets will require at least two 90 degree bends) and strong enough to hold the weight of the amp? It's a four channel amp, so it's not the lightest. I have looked at Menard's for metal strips to use, but only came up with a piece used for vent work. It wasn't bad for the application I was using at that time, but it wasn't easy to bend and I don't have a metal press to bend it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

HD has strap metal. 1/8" thick by 3/4" wide should do the trick. You'll want to heat it with a propane torch to make it easier to bend.

Or you could try it in aluminum as they have that also.

I believe that you can get aluminum flat stock at Home Depot and 1/4" by 1" or even 1/8" by 1/2" would hold almost any amp. You could bend aluminum rather easy and do not use heat as it will not help on aluminum other then to burn your hands //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

If you want, send me a PM with dimensions including hole location and size and I could make you up something out of stainless steel and ship it to you for shipping cost only //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I could even tig in some gussets simply for the coolness factor.

I am going to make up some stainless rods for grills for my sub box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Will post pics when I finally get around to it.

below is a pick of how you could do it. You could prolly bend the aluminum yer self. Stainless simply forget bending and mild steel you could heat and bend and then paint.

Thanks for the advice. Garrettpf, I appreciate your offer, but I think I want to try and do it myself first! I'll let you know if I can't get it done. I ended up with some metal strips from Menards that may be a little difficult to get exact, but they are sturdy and I definitely don't want my amps moving all over the place.

Thanks again!
