Memory stick problem with 8454

I recently purchased a CD8454 and formatted the memory stick with the head unit but my PC wont read the memory stick. I have used 2 different card readers (Sandisc and PNY) and 2 different computers. Niether PC will reconize the card. I am also running Windows XP on both PCs. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I ended up formatting my memory stick on the computer and the deck couldn't format it anymore.

I went out and bought the sony memory reader. It cost a fu#@$@ing $50 from ciricuit city, but it read the stick. I guess since the deck only uses magic gate memory sticks, you need your reader to support the magic gate security. Since I had formatted my disc on the pc, I needed the special utility from sony (http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/perl/swu-download.pl?template=EN&upd_id=1277&PASSVAL2=SMB) to reformat it so that the deck could recognize it.

Hope this helps. Sucks that we can't use the cheapo memory stick readers out there. **** you SONY!!!

Can I ask you guys what you think of the sq of the unit as I am considering purchasing it as it has all the features that I am looking for. Also how much did you get it for I have a feeling my dealer is trying to rip me off as he's asking for 600$. Also why do they put internal amps in a high end sq model it's not like your going to use them.

I paid $520 for mine. Call up a few small shops where they can negioiate on the pricing. Some will give you a better deal.

I think the unit sounds great though I'm still tuning it. I finally got the my computer to read memory sticks after buying a freakin $50 sony memory stick reader. You would think sandisk who makes the memory sticks for sony would have one, but I didn't see any. The other thing is that the response on the knob for the remote sucks, but oh well. I'm probably being very picky since this is my first head unit. I'm sure someone who has gone through more head units would be more help.

if u format it in windows .... it will format it as your operating system is formatted fat32*file allocation table 32bit* for win98 and ntfs(new technology/networking file system* for winXP ... im sure the memory readers use a different file system

I think magic gate has its own type. I got it to work a while ago, but now the hu isn't reading the ms. It formats it, but it doesn't flash the words formatting, so I'm guess it doesn't do it right. However, it can write to the ms, but it cannot read what it writes to it.

Anyone know how to re-zero a memory stick?
