Melted Fuse?!?!

Yea I ordered a set of Knu fuseholders and 250A fuses. But the fuseholder is a 1/0 Rockford one, and the fuse is a Maxi.

Ah that ***** but youve taken care of it already so you should be good, knus good stuff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

EDIT: We cant say $uck$. Really!?!?

1/0 Should be able to handle 250amps if the distance isnt crazy long anyways. Just buy a 250amp fuse.
read the whole thred next time dude //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif.... the wire is not the issue... the issue is his amplifier draws 250 amps of current and he has a 100 amp fuse!!

I had a 99% positive gut feeling it was a maxi fuse...

experience means everything I guess...

I didnt say the wire was the problem. I said his fuse on the existing wire was the problem. So i told him to replace the fuse not the wire, which he is doing.

EDIT: It seems your referring to the crazy long comment. I was just covering my a$$. I didnt want him to have an extremely long run of 1/0 then add a 250amp fuse as the rating of wire goes down with distance. Which you already know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

sic audio.. first off happy b day... yesterday you showed up 38 if I'm not mistaken.

beyond that i would agree that the fuse should work better but i would bet a dollar that the fuse holder itself is loose on the battery side or the fuse is loose in the holder. He made need a bigger fuse as well but the blame on this is heat generated most likely by arcing inside the holder where the wire attaches. Not looking at it its hard to tell but It should melt both sides if its just the fuse is a pos. Love to hear from the thread starter if that is the case or not.

I am new to this site but not new to electrical issues and i agree experience is everything.

btw 1/0 from everything I see is only rated at best 245amps(online page, questionable number) for automotive only good for 170(electrical code book) for distribution. If you actually use 250 you should upgrade. That wire would do a slow meltdown at that kind of amperage

not my Bday for 3 weeks but thx //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif forum musta went bonkers again lol

as for the wire almost all quality car audio wire is oversized based on AWG standards and will carry alot more current than what AWG says.. ( AWG ratings are based on a 70% safety margin iirc and also on solid copper not stranded, but cross section is the key and all that really matters) And I bet he did have a loose connection also, ( thats 1 of the reasons I guessed it was a pos MAXI lol) they have horrible holders that always come loose and make it melt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

good to know.. don't buy maxi crap...I have been out of the car audio scene for a long time but I have seen quite a few melted panels from loose connection. Surprising how many people install panels and or audio equipment and never look back.. good idea is to check this stuff regularly.

This is a really well informed forum in my opinion so far. Good to have a place to bounce ideas and questions.

the fuses work fine it is the cheap holders that have issues in most cases..

cars use Maxi fuses alot... and some do have issues from heat ect, however not near as often as in high/constant amp draw such as car audio..

Only the batt side of the fuse was melted. I'll check the connections and see how tight they are...but will low voltage cause early clipping??

It would be cheaper, it might be easier to find a place to mount it, and you would have a ton of options if you just do two, 3 slot fuse holders...

My bad, yes, I read them each as having two 4ohm coils. The JBL diagram left a bit to be desired, IMO. ;) And a double yes, thought U was talking...

I plan on getting the fuse to run as a front sub/midbass in my kick panels...I've heard they sound good but you definitely wont get mirror shaking...

Sounds like a bad ground or wiring problem on the 12v+ side.
