MECA competitors, little help..

Yeah, I feel like the rules are worded vaguely sometimes. Oh well, I decided against doing AS, even though I'm sure that I could spank most of the classes. Street will be a lot more fun and competitive:)
Street's tough, but hey payout at the 3x events can be large. I think the highest payout I ever got was like $75 for first place. Paid for gas, food and my entry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I think you'll be seeing alot more car shows mixed in with MECA events in Kentucky this year, so you being a local that might intrest you a bit. This should also improve the amounts of competitors in the street classes too. Hell there were 8 new MECA AS and Street competitors this weekend at Freezefest, so more competitors always makes it more fun.

As far as the comment "lots of rules" ... well any competitve organization will have bounderies and specifications to keep the competition fair and fun. Meca is no different in that, and the rules are changing all the time to reflect the changes in the industry, equipment, and varying degree of vehicles. You try comming up with a rule that applies to every vehicle type in existance to encompass all the varying situations and keep it fair - its not easy!

Sounds fun. Anybody able to give me some loose ideas on how low I can fuse with certain levels of power? I know current draw is different for every amp, etc., but I just dont want to buy an amp bigger than I can fuse (while still staying in amateur), which would mean anything that would require close to 200 amps of fuse.

Basically for anybody with experience, what is a typical current draw for 2kw, 1.5kw, 2.5 kw.. I would really like to not have to find out the hard way first if possible.

Well, it depends on the amp you are using and also the type/size of fuses you use.

For instance, I've burped my zx2500 (at 1 ohm) off of as little as 30 amps of fusing. I clamped my amp once and it was drawing ~200 amps.

The most common number I've seen is that a fuse can take about 4x it's rating before popping. So 50 amps will allow ~200 amps.
