Massive confusion with Line output converter (LOC)

Hello this is my first post here, Im a regular over at vwvortex. I have done a lot of searching on various audio forums and Google and am still super stumped. Its my first attempt at doing my very own audio system in my 09' VW GTi. I want to add a sub and amp to my car and keep the stock head unit so i went the route of getting an LOC. The stereo shop gave me the one they said i needed so i bought it. seems to be universal so i dont think the unit is the issue. Its a Pac Audio Soem-T 2 channel with auto remote turn on.

I have 2 main questions. 1 being should i wire this up in stereo or mono since it will just be one subwoofer and if mono would stealing sound from one side of the car make an impact on the overal sound quality? and 2: i dont know where to wire the 12v constant and the remote wire that is coming out of the outputs side on the LOC. do these go to the amp or to the stock headunit wiring harness?

Any help would be sweet, i would love to have some tunes again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

All of the wires on the PAC go to the deck except the rcas out. You can wire it mono by hooking up one channel just make sure you know which colors make right or left.

Google search for your wiring diagram on the head unit based on your make model and you will find what color is 12+ constant. Your amp should not be connected to anything up front except the RCAs on the LC. If there is however a blue or a switching wire on the harness this goes to the amps remote turn on but it is switched not constant. Most LCs dont have an amp wire lead, least not I have seen. I wouldnt use it on it if it did this just begs for noise in the system.

Thanks a bunch man, the schematic is pretty confusing. It doesnt show where any of the outputs are meant to go i mean obviously the RCAs go to the amp but as for the other 4 wires coming out of the output it doesnt say anything. Do you know why this LOC even has a 12v constant and remote wire? what is this for because i have now seen through my research on my problem that most other LOC's dont even have these wires on them.

the pac loc is a unit that will provide you with an amp turn on wire. it should be blue on the PAC part. the constant is to be wired to the constant for the factory deck to activate a relay inside the part. it is activated with signal from the speaker inputs into the PAC. The main reason your shop sold you this part is the VW's do not have a true switched circuit behind the radio, they use a can bus switching system to turn the radio on and off. this is waht allows the radio to stay on until the door opens/take the keys out or what ever your car may do instead turning off with the car being turned off. adding the relay to the PAC module give you a true switched sorce for amp turn on. you should use this if possible. again yellow goes to constant 12v, and blue to amp turn on.

there should also be a ground wire(black) i would ground that also.

most vw radios have the harness pin out on the factory drck somewhere. they used to i dont remember for the 09. if you need a wire guide email me and i can send you the whole cars wiring from DEI. john.mease@fenixaudio.com

Since its a mono application you can wire them all off of the single pair of speaker outputs from the factory deck. I would highly suggest wiring the PAC part to both rear speaker outputs from the deck. just a habit i picked up. either way will be fine.

noise will not be a factor in this install do to the fact it is for subs only. your amplifer should have a LPF setting to filter all possible "noise" inducing frequinces. i have never had noise in my subs and i set all amps with my o scope, i would see it if it was there.

Man that is some great help. What i was planning on doing after some more research was running a remote wire to my amp via the switched auxiliary 12v cig outlet in the hatch. If i did this would i need to uses the remote wire on the PAC? I found the CAN bus 12v constant on my wiring harness but you make it sound like the only reason for the 12v constant wire on the PAC is for the relay that creates a remote switch to be ran to the amp. So if i use the aux cig outlet in the back as a remote turn on for the amp could i just cap off the 12v constant and remote wire of the PAC behind the deck with the PAC? Would there be any difference in sound quality or noise or anything? Im sorry in advance if i am misinterpreting this. I have an electrician buddy who keeps saying things like "well why dont you just do this?" im afraid to butcher up my car for nothing. Im such a noob at this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif

i would just use the remote wire from the PAC unit. forget the acc plug in the back. why take 2 things apart if you can do it with one?
