with funny noises ,poor SQ and short livespans -And I am 40,been doing this crap since

I was 20 years old..

lol how old are you?
49, and this morning when I got up I felt 64. Holy crap I'm sore! I'll take a break today and tomorrow while I take in the Christmas festivities with my family, then be back at it on Wednesday. Merry Christmas everyone!

P.S. I think someone mentioned I should sip some prune juice? I'll be sippin' on some wine today!

im 22 and im hurtin after spending a day soundeadining my car. so far ive laid over 160sq ft in just the trunk.. i still have to do all the side panel's. floor. roof. and doors....
Just wait til you do an install at my age. It's actual hard work for me. I guess my desire to have excellent sound still overrides my disdain for bustin' a$$.

Last night, all was quiet in the the house (not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse), so I thought I'd go out in the garage and see if I could get some more of my wires run. I got them up to the doors and realized I would have to remove the doors to run the speaker wires to them. That also is not an easy chore when doing it by yourself. But I got the passenger door done. Today, the driver's door, and I will also start installing the sound deadener. Another couple of days and I'll have this puppy done!

I have a Corolla. I jacked around with a wire coat hanger for an hour or so before I decided to take the door off. Once I did, the wire went right through. I did the other door in about 15 minutes (taking the door off).

Today I finished running all the wiring and deadened both front doors. I used the RAMMatt and I did both the outer and inner door skins. I also got my comps mounted in (and on) the doors. Once I got the doors put back together I couldn't believe how much of a difference this stuff makes. Now when I close the doors I just hear a solid "thud" as opposed to the empty drum sound the door used to make when I closed it. I also tried to seal the door as well as possible, but as you know completely sealing a door is just not possible. Still, this is the first time I've ever deadened doors, so I'm guessing the effort should make quite a difference.

I ran into somewhat of a hurdle with the wiring. I had planned on just running some wires from my HU's wiring harness (the one with the power connections) to the fuse box, but it's located under the hood, and there just aren't any openings in the firewall to run wires. I figured instead of drilling a hole in the firewall, I'd just order a harness from Crutchfield that allows me to connect the Alpine harness directly to the factory harness. Problem solved. It'll be here tomorrow. I'm also waiting on a Ai-net adapter so I can connect my Delphi satellite receiver to my HU.

I've been doing my own installs since 1979 and I knew going in this was gonna be some work, but I think my age is catching up with me. Today I realized just how daunting of a task a complete install (done properly) really is. My hat is off (and a lot my hair is gone) to those who do this for a living. THIS IS HARD WORK! This is also a young man's hobby (the installation part, not the audiophile part, that never goes away). Unfortunately for me, I've decided this will be my last install. It's just too hard for for me to do at my age. Maybe I can retire to something less physically demanding like home audio........but I'm not retired from car audio just yet.

dont feel too bad, ive had both hips replaced, cancer, kidney and liver failure, and I still get shit from people on caraudio.com sometimes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

The truth is, no matter how old or how ill you become, your enthusiasm for new toys always remains.
