Making a Powered Subwoofer.

make sure to read the reviews on the dayton plate amp.some had to remedy a hum noise that goes along with it.thats the reason im going with a bash instead.if its not a necessity to mount the amp on the box, here is another option'BASH 300w Subwoofer Plate Amplifier+Hardwood/Plexi Case | eBay
$235 is $135 more than the dayton 240 and were spliting his sub 4 ways for his christmas present I don't think the rest of the family will want to spend over $400 on it. I thought the hum noise was something stupid one of the reviewers did and they fixed it.

i think your plans are fine. i agree porting your dad's sub with the SA-240 should work well. that smaller sub should be fine for your needs - performance will be determined by placement.
Nice thanks for the vote of confidence //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have done side-by-side with the Dayton and that Bash. that Bash is a joke. we tried both on several sub combos. the Dayton smoked it every time. I have had no noise issues. if it has a hum - then the owner damaged it and blew something. hum comes from damaged capacitors.

i made my own wooden box for the plate amp - i wanted flexibility and i use it to test subs.

Thanks for review sounds like the 240 is the way to go for my dad. He's got an adcom gfa-545 II that were going to build him 3 ways for and then pair them with the 240 and sub it should sound really nice.

MCM Audio Select 200 Watt Subwoofer Amplifier Module | 50-6263 (506263) | MCM Audio Select

i have this running currently. we compared it also with the SA-340 and 300W Bash. There wasn't an audible difference between the MCM and the Dayton. continuously variable phase is a nice feature as well.

with this amp on my vented VEGA-124 i can shake the floor and vibrate the couch across the room. it gets louder than i want. tonality is 6.5 out of 10 due to the sub selection. nicer subs increase to 7.5 out of 10. the velodyne got a 10 out of 10 after we ran the calibration (naturally, a $1500 sub will perform well).

also the MCM has high level pass through - so it works with any receiver - even between an older 2 channel and speakers.

The MCM I own

So the 200 watt mcm is louder than a 340 watt amp? Also where can I get a velodyne sub?

you can't afford a velodyne sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yes, the 200W MCM blew away the "300W" Bash. the Bash is a joke when it comes to amplification. i would use it as a door stop.

my 1993 Pioneer SX-203 reciever rated 70Wx2 blew the Bash out of the water as well. but that Pioneer is a freak of science. i ran it at 2 ohm stereo on 4-12" subs along with a 4 ohm component set. put a fan on it and let her rip - no issues whatsoever.

the Dayton SA-240 and the MCM 200W were near identical. no audible differences - but the difference between 200W and 240W is minimal, a fraction of a dB.

i consider the Dayton and MCM equivalent, other than the adjustable phase feature.
