Making a Powered Subwoofer.

nice find.

i usually just work with internal dimensions in the software and i deal with wall thickness when i build the enclosure. for HT i would agree with a large enclosure with low tuning. too bad the plate amps don't have a subsonic filter. low tuning will help keep the sub safe and loaded for most of what it will encounter.

The dayton plate amps do cut off from 18hz and below according to this guy on diyaudio he said hp but I'm sure he meant lp.

The only reason the box needs to be so large is because of the sub you decided on. If space is an issue, you can spend your money on a different sub, which would require a smaller box.

For instance, the DVC385-88 would require a box ~5 cu ft, but it's out of stock until January.

Space is not an issue I'm fine with a 12cuft box it just threw me off that a sub like this needs such a big box. Also now the guy on diyaudio says a 12cuft box would make the sub exceed xmax at 100w which I don't get because the sub is suppose to handle 300w and the 12cuft is what was recommended. I just want to get everything correctly made so it sounds good.

Ok I have tomorrow off from work so hopefully I can make it to lowes and get the box put together. I'm not sure what type of wood to get tho I didn't want to use mdf just because it doesn't look good not carpeted. I'm stuck between the size I'd love the extra power I could put to the sub from a 7cuft box but I think the 12 cuft would sound better.
