Making a box

Hey guys I have a 15" kicker L7, dual 2ohm vc's with my soon to come Hifonics BX1000d, which I am gonna run at 1ohm which is supposedly 1000rms. I want to build a pretty good sized box to fill up the back of my 4Runner. I have a friend who is a carpenter doing it for free, and I have seen that most people use 3/4" MDF, which is what he reccomended. The question is, sealed? Ported? and how big? I listen to a lot of rap, so spl is a pretty big one for me and I just love the bass....anyone make a box for this before? and also I see that lots of people say how they tuned their box, like 47hz for example, is this the frequency you set your gains to? not positive on that one...hit me back please. I also have a capacitor, which is a necessity with that big of an amp, do u think that will be all i need? thanks guys

IMO, I'd ditch the amp, and get another. If you have the $, kx 1200x1... I've had a few L7 15"s.. All of which are WAY louder ported. If you are going SPL w/ L7, NEVER seal it. Build a SPL box to kickers specs ( http://www.kicker.com). And no, cap's aren't a necessity(sp?). I wouldn't run one. Alot of people seem to think the same thing.( Doesn't do much) That, or PM :

First off no reason to ditch that amp, HiFonics make some solid amps and are dirty cheap for how much power you get out of them (and no they are not overrated). Build a ported box, and you can go here http://www.bcae1.com/ to find the basics on how to do it all.

Alright so I looked at kicker.com and the other website, but I still didnt get anything on tuning the box. I am thinking I want to make a ported box, because I love loud bass. And why is it that the a cap is not neccessary? my lights already dim with my crappy profile amp, which is running "600watts rms" so once I hook up this 1000rms amp wont my battery/alternator just die?? I have a friend with two L7 10's and a 1200.1 amp and a cap, and he would have major voltage drops, but now his cap is making it totally stable. Just wondering.

Ah, another "ban wagon" person...

The Kx1200.1 is a WHOLE better amp. More power, better amp overall. For the money, hifonics. I wouldn't go out and buy one tho. Do research on the amp you want of your choice. The 1500 put 900 some odd watts. ( I don't member the link. I think mjbaily posted the link)

The l7 strives for power. The kx 1200.1 is a awesome, powerful amp.
