Major problem w/HU and voltage drop!

Strange things.....

These are the voltages I'm getting running power wire straight from the battery to the amp (other amp isn't hooked up right now), no dist block/fuses.

Voltage @amp w/ignition off: 12.3v

Voltage of remote wire @amp: 12.24v

Voltage @amp w/ignition on and remote lead from HU attached: 6.11v

Another strange symptom is that w/the igntion on, when I touch the remote lead to the amp's remote terminal, the amp's light strip briefly lights then dies out. If I try again immeditately, I usually get nothing. But if I wait 10secs or so, I can touch it again, and the strip will light and die down again....over and over....

BTW, the HU works fine and the front OEM dash and rear liftgate speakers work fine as well....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Also, I hooked up another working amp straight to the battery, positive and neg leads from amp to battery. I honestly can't remember now if I need the rem lead to turn the amp on, but hooking the amp to the battery, I read over 12v but it does not power on-hooked straight at the battery.

Well to fill you guys in, I found the problem and it was simple in a way.

Though it gave very confusing symptoms and DMM readings, in the end it was..................a BAD GROUND:blush:

I never considered it because the double ground is inside the van but I guess over time somehow it got a little oxidized/corroded. It's just funny how the amps cut out suddenly when it happened the other day.

I ran power and ground wires from the battery to the amps and then narrowed it to the ground, revealing the culprit.

Goes to show, check the basics first, regardless!!!
