the sub is not magical,
its all about doubling the size of the manufactorerers suggested box,
cause thats when you get some real output, there suggestions is the bare minimum, and a selling point ("less space") basicly, it may not sound good but it will play in there)
1 12" type R in a 4 foot vented enclosure tuned to 36 hz will out perform 2 type R's in a 4 foot enclosure tuned to 36 (SPL anyways) 2 subs in the same space as the one will smooth out the curve
its all about the sensitivity ya heard
alot of people are skeptical about this "the manufactor says this that blah", but if you heard the one R 10" i did in a 2.5 cubic foot box, and the one R 12" in the 4-- most wouldn't be able to sleep at night
heres an example, my elcipse ti says it will go in a 2 foot vented enclosure or some shit,
when i called eclipse, "it will go in 2.0 but optimum is 4.75--- wow, good thing i dont care about space thats a bit of a diffence,
experiment and see, its how you can make 1 $150 sub make people jaws drop
