Lost sound with FMOD's

I got my 20hz HP FMOD's in the mail today. I plugged them in and did some testing. Well, after almost an hour, it obviously sounded like there was a loss in SQ AND SPL. Music just didn't sound as good and it sounded quieter. I've been blasting my XXX the past few days and I've been loving it. But sounded worse after I tested out the FMOD's. It was in my garage too, where music usually sounds better.

My question is, If I had an amp with a SSF that I set to about 20-25, should it make the sound differences (loss of SQ/SPL) I've noticed with the FMOD's?

My XXX is in an ABC box tuned at 30hz. I'm going to keep them in just to be safe, but I'm thinking about switching amps now..

Well, i noticed the same deal when I used them...harrison labs f-mods. To be absolutely honest, unless ur a complete dumbass...SSF are not need at all. Seriously...as long as gains are set correctly, and you don't play volume master 24/7 there is no need, especially with higher end subs that can easily take it. Now, if you had 6 year old subs...cranked the gains and played it loud in a ported enclosure...i'd recommend them. So, ever since bout 2 years ago...i've never used them...even my onboard amplifier ones. Peace

edit:

p.s.- also, with low tuning...this almost eliminates the need for them. The sub will be 100% fine to half an octave below tuning. AND, even below there...it's not going to tear it up...just make sure no clipping. So, with your lowing tuning...ur good.
