Looking to upgrade system, 2005 F150

Just moved to San Antonio, TX to start my life with my fiancé. After getting in to town the pops wanted to trade in his 05 F150 for a new king ranch. So I ended up just buying his 05 off him.

After buying the truck in 05 he had a system installed and has been in there since. He originally had a 5 channel JL amp powering everything but he said he had to have it replaced a few years back. I started tearing apart the truck to see just exactly what he had in it.

First thing I noticed was the crap amps that some shop ripped him off with. Has a Boss Chaos cx750 powering the W1 and a CX350 powering the MB Quart DWE 130's.

Eventually I want to upgrade everything in the truck but first things first I need more bass!

I don't want a blow through or wall, just something that'll fit in the truck stock. Suggestions?

And obviously a solid amp that'll pair well with the sub/box. Or do you think just a better box will do?

Thanks for your opinions and suggestions in advance. Looking forward to piecing the system together!

Can definitely tell the sound quality difference. Havnt heard his truck in a few years, cranked it up and was super disappointed. That's when he told me he had to replace the amp. Thinking bout just heading to a local car audio shop and having them build me a box. Suggestion on an amp?

The speakers look like they were installed by someone who has no clue. The doors take 6x8 speakers, and those big gaps on the sides are completely killing the midbass response. The proper way to do this is to make a baffle to solidly mount the speakers and then seal off the gaps to be airtight. That's the minimum that should have been done for a low budget installation. At least buy some plastic 6x8 to 6.5" adapters.

The subwoofer box should be turned over, so unless you put the sub up for the photo that was installed upside down. Firing the sub against the floor uses boundary loading to make it sound louder on low notes.

Ya I was really unhappy with how the door speakers were installed. I'll go ahead and order some 6x8 to 6.5 adapters right now, and yes I flipped the sub over for the picture. Thanks for the reply! I know these are entry level mb quarts, but if installed correctly and a solid amp pushing them I'm sure I'd be much happier. I'm going to deaden the doors right now and get the adapters installed. Any suggestions on an amp for them?

Thanks mclerico83! Think I'm going to stick with my current door speakers. Just deaden the doors, and get them mounted properly. Just upgrade both amps and subwoofer box. Then see how it's sounding then.

Really appreciate all the feedback, all within just a hour of me posting.

Called a local shop asking if they had any 6x8 to 6.5 adapters and they did not, so I drove by my buddies house and picked up a piece of plywood, and just went to work.

First time ever attempting this but here's a few pics...

Now just need to order an amp for the door speakers and it should be solid for now. Then on to the subwoofer box.
