Hey all, first post.
Well, here's what I got: I bought a used car and to my surprise was two 700w sub's in the trunk with a 1400w amp. The subs are Pyramid 700w and that's all I could find out about them. The amp is a Pyle 1400w something... I'll get the specs in the morning. Well, the sound from the subs is great for low a quality system, however it's lacking the really low lows and at higher volumes, the subs clip badly while trying to punch out my double bass metal. The subs don't punch at high volumes though, which I guess is good, but they become really distorted.
Anyway, I'm thinking of selling the subs an the enclosure but keeping the amp. I'd like to get two subs to replace the old two. I am looking to spend no more than about $100 per sub and I'll need a new box. I hear that while ported allowes for a lot more noise, a sealed enclosure gets better SQ which is what I'm after. Maybe I could bridge my amp and use one large sub? I don't know. The thing with sealed boxes is that mine was sealed. When both subs were running, one would punch horribly. So me and a friend drilled a 3" hole in the side of each box and now they fire fine(?).
For the box I was thinking of just using another Best Buy box. I'm not sure about it though 'cause of my previous experience... Maybe if the speakers were designed to be sealed?
Basicly, what I'm looking for is advice on which subs to get in the $100ish range. I'm also looking for advice on the enclosure. Should I buy a cheap one or build my own? Should I port or no? Thanks.
