Looking into getting a 12" Type R... RMS QUESTION!

so im interested into getting a 12" Type R @ 2ohms

but should i get an amp the supplies just the right amout of juice aka 500 rms to the sub?

or should i get something around the 600-1000 rms mark?

someone told me that i should get something around the 1000 rms to insure that i wont blow the sub if i "crank it up"

I would give it like 800-1000 for daily driving but meh, I dont know much about these subs.

It's better to have a little more power on tap than barely enough. I would go for a 1000 RMS amp and set the gains conservatively.

type r's are curtainly great for the cash. type x's are even better!! still for a broke guy like me. the r's will do me fine.

Indeed! It is better to run a higher watt amp like the above posts have stated, but the Alpine MRP-M650 at 2 ohms will pound very good 600 rms. Good stuff for the daily driver and you will save some money as well.

you need a higher output amp. because in the end with voltage drop and amp rise you aren't getting that much power. 1000 actual rms watts.

My BXi2006 pushes mine nicely.

Coworker has a ZX1200 (ZX might not be right, but it's an older Kicker amp) with two 12 R's. Absolutely banged in his Escort, still very loud in his Catera.

all you can give that thing is 600-800.. 900 tops.. anymore and on the right bass notes turned up.. it will POPPP lock and drop it.. kabooom.. just like mine.. shiitty type rs. lol

with 900 watts RMS on tap at 2ohms and 1200 at 1ohm, should I just not consider a type-r at all? what would be another good choice available for the same $$ ($150usd on ebay)
