Finally getting a car this weekend (been without for 2 yrs). 1988 toyota supra:

Can you guys point me to some head units/speakers (I crammed in some 5.25's into my old supra...maybe I can get a car audio shop to fit 6.5's??). Also looking for a sub in my trunk. It's a hatchback and I don't much care to use my trunk space for anything else other than the sub. Amp suggestions?

I'm very amateur so bear with me. I don't have much time to do the install myself with my current work schedule, so I'll probably be having a car audio shop do the install (anyone have experience with best buy??)

Thanks in advance!

I can tell you now it's going to cost and arm and a leg to have best buy install a complete setup like that. You could probably knock $200 off your budget for installation alone (They wanted to charge me about $75 to install a head unit) Better off reading how to install and do it yourself. What are you looking for in your system? To get loud, to sound good...etc?

well first off... there is no trunk in a hatchback //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. second every best buy job ive seen done looked like high schoolers did the work. They will overcharge for the quality your getting. Search around your area for an actual audio shop.

Then check local craigslist and search for some deals, or check out our classifieds. If you only want new, then decide on how much space you actually want to give up so we can narrrow it done to 1 12, or 2 10s or whatever

Ok so thanks for the input!

Dropped by a local car audio shop and asked for an estimate. He looked at my car and said only 5.25" will fit in front and 4" in rear.

He gave me a price for:

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X395

Directed Audio 800w amp

2x JL Audio 5.25"

2x JL Audio 4"

2x JL Audio 10w1 subs (with box installed)

He said he'd give me $800 installed for it all.

Is that a good deal? Should I change some parts? (he claims he can get ahold of pretty much any part for cheaper than I can find anywhere else)...

Should I forget about the 2x 4" speakers in the rear and just put more money into other parts of the system?

Thanks for any input!

you could probably do better buying the equipment here the amp is only around 300-400 watts rms you dont need the rear speakers and the jl w0 isnt a very good woofer,by that i mean it doesn't take alot of power ,i believe only 250 watts rms
