Okay I, like many other ppl in the country are going through a company "down-sizing". I want to take this time to see about networking here for possible job openings in the car audio industry. I know what type of job i'm looking for right now but I'd love to see what ppl have open out there. Thank you to everyone who posts.

Well it does ****! I work for a Loss Prevention company for KMart Distribution center. We basically sub-contract out, which is fine by me. Reason being, because KMart is down sizing as well. They are closing stores across the nation and were it is still booming it is doing ok, but with the Economy the way it is now and will be, then I see this huge *** warehouse we watch, closing with in a few years. We will still be here, but they won't. I know what you are going through, as I see people lose their jobs everyday.............kinda. I mean most everyone goes on Unemployment and still gets some money, but would be hard to survive on that.

If you are into car audio, then hit up your local shops and put your application in. I am not sure how good you are, but a lot of times they will hire you in to help out and what not. I used to sell car audio at a shop for a couple years, but they ended up tanking because of the Economy, lol! A lot high end shops want someone very quailified. They do have schools for it. Might be something you could look into. Or just do it on the side. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah, just blame the economy! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Haha, j/k.

But I hear what you mean, a lot of people I know family or friends that work factory jobs are losing them due to plant shut downs. Sucks seeing stuff get this bad.

I lost mine back in March, but have been pushing everything I can design/web development wise even since. It's a pain in the *** at times seeing as everyone wants professional work with out a professional price.

Better be, lol!

I mean audio sales have been done for years due to not just the economy, but all the rules and regulations we the people have to follow anymore. Such as noise ordiance laws, which is good in most cases, but to the thug wanna be wanting to blare his shit all night long, which was 80% of our customers, we lost a lot of sales. Then all the people losing their jobs and what not. Hell this was some time ago too. My buddy just reopened his shop about 6 months ago and he is thinking of closing it up already. It is just bad right now, real bad. Not to many people want to by shit a local shops anymore and a lot has to do with the Net. People can get prices a lot cheaper on the net. So if he makes anything, it is usually due to installing and most of it is not his equipment. Sucks and I feel for him.

Go in business for yourself. Get a cheap van, put some graphics on it stuff it with your gear, advertise in local nickel ad sheets/HS-college papers/Craigslist, offer to go to the customer, install whatever 12V stuff they want. You can undercut a B&M store and you only have to pay one employee, YOU!

If you do good you prosper. If you ****, you go down. At least your fate is in your hands.

Thanks for the reply's. I used to install and sell car audio a few years back and I know the owner. Him and my brother are like best friends and he is always trying to get me and my brother back in his store to help him out. I not really looking to do installs for ppl as I had my own shop for 2.5 years. The market is super saturated down here in new orleans. The car audio market is also a dead end here, no one has crank it up competitions any more. car shows don't come here, last major one was Hot Import Nights in '02. I would love to get back to owning my own shop again and having some car audio competitions but that died years ago.

I was looking more at a position with an individual company as a rep or dealer contact. Something along that lines. As this is what I do now, I'm Home Depots instore contact for 2 of their departments I also build and set up their product displays, but Home Depot is removing us from the stores.

yeah dude it sucks but u have to used ur trades at this point .u can alwasy do side jobs (no tax) but try to find a good job with any of ur skills . and their is always side jobs look for people who who have blown out tail lights and shit that u see wrong on their car and askthem if they want it fixed. try to work with shops as contracted u know its called a hustle u need it at this point

You are aiming high up the food chain. Chances don't look good. The job market is a market after all.

If the local market is over-saturated, so what? Are they are el perfecto places with great rates? How many of them back their work with top notch guarantees? How many come out to the customer? If you can't find a niche to fill you aren't trying hard enough to find that niche. Alarms, lighting kits, handless cellphone setups, gauges, all are fair game for installation as well as car audio.

If it comes down to eating and working or starving and being out of work, and if you don't have it in you to go the DIY route, then go work for the friend of your brother, keep your eye open for opportunities and hope that something comes by. NOLA will rebound from Katrina over time, even if it is a long time, and that means there will be openings at various places for you to check out.

that would be a pretty neat idea....

car comps are coming back, but not the way they used to be .... the reason they used to be all the rage was that their was money to made at the top ranks, and companies supported the contest orgs. The masters invitational used to pay out $25k for the money round.
