Looking for new home theatre system.

I am looking to buy another home theatre system. Time to upgrade the old Panasonic. It won't output on the rear channels anymore. My question is which one? Is there a difference between getting the system with the built in DVD player, or one that is seperate with just the reciever and speakers? Also How do you feel about Phillips brand. I was looking around at my local wally world, and the Phillips had the best sound compared to the other ones they had. How are they quality wise? Do they last fairly long? Thanks.
