Looking for a single 15 that will outperform my 2 Type-R 12s

Can you explain this 'choking' concept please?
It's probably worth noting that I did not build this box. I know the owner, so he doesn't really charge me for anything besides parts.
Not enough room for the sound wave to develop. This can be inside the box, in between the port and wall or just no room to get sound into the vehicle.

So, would most of you agree that a single 15 will fit my needs well?

Let me be realistic for a second--a friend has 2 L7s in a box made by the same guy as mine. He's running at 2000 watts, I'm running at 1000 watts.

So technically, since our box is made by the same person, we are exactly the same, except his subs are bigger and he has me doubled in power. (Since I'm assuming our boxes are made with the same planning/logic in mind)

Here is a picture of his box/subs:

Also, he is in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

But, his system is so unbelievably loud; although I like my system, his made me realize that you hear my lows, but you flat out FEEL his lows. I mean sure, you can feel mine, but his system is ridiculous.

Now, obviously comparatively his system doubles mine in every aspect. But, realistically, to get sound like his, would it be possible from a MASSIVE 15 that could handle 2000 watts or more?

If this is the case, what will I be looking at?

After all, I was totally happy with my system until I heard his---I hadn't heard louder from a normal, non-competition consumer until he got the system pictured above.

In my case, is there anyway to tell from the pictures where this could be occurring?

if you want to hit the lows you need some cone space. My AQ HDC3 15 hit the lows well. But if you are anything like me i am all about the lows. So in order to get that you are gonna need some cone area. 2 12's if tuned properly will get low. The 1st and foremost thing when doing subs that should be looked at is the car. Its the car thats gonna determine what you can and cannot do. How much space you have, do the seats fold down, whats the resonant frequency of the car. Its something you are just gonna have to tinker with and try new things. IMHO doing a big system in a trunk car is a waste unless you fire into the cabiin and seal off the trunk. That will get you loud and low!!!!!! hes got an SUV(one that gets loud easily at that) youve got a car, so he has got you beat off the bat!

If you want bass like his you will probably have to buy a truck. Or at least something easier to get loud than a mustang. Or pay lots of money on equipment. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And yes it definitely appears to be getting choked off.

subs toward the back port toward the back. move the box away from the back of the car. Unless you know exactly what the box is tuned to then i wouldnt trust a 32hz tune. a 32hz tune with R's and the proper airspace will hit the lows pretty **** good! I had 2 12's in a chambered t-line tuned to 34 and they hit the lows great.

Is there any way for me to tell what the box is tuned to ?

I have had the same problem with thinking that my two type r's weren't hitting low enough. After I raammatted my trunk and rear deck, the sound quality in my car was night and day. I wanted to upgrade to a 15 but now I decided not to cuz it was just my rattles that made it seem as though my subs weren't getting down low. Maybe you can try buying some sound deadener..just a thought
