Looking for a single 15 that will outperform my 2 Type-R 12s

I am looking for a 15" subwoofer that will outperform my two SWR-1242D subs.

I am becoming unhappy with my 12s every time I hear them struggle getting low.

So, I am interested in finding a single 15 that will outperform my 2 Type-R's in both frequency response and output.

If such a thing exists, I would prefer that it run off 1000watts @ 1-ohm; however, if more power is needed, I can get a new amp.

Also, this will be going in a 2000 Ford Mustang trunk. I am not sure if I will be able to get proper airspace for a single 15 in my trunk, so keep this in mind with any suggestions.

Thanks!

Box is made to fit into the trunk when the back seat is removed. It does cover the entire trunk from front to back, as pictured.

If they are struggling to get low its not because they are 12s.

Does kind of looking like they are getting choked though in which case a single 15 in smaller airspace would effectively get lower.

There are many good choices in 15s. With a little searching I am sure you can find the one that best suits your wants and needs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can you explain this 'choking' concept please?

It's probably worth noting that I did not build this box. I know the owner, so he doesn't really charge me for anything besides parts.

although in terms of output imo there aren't a lot of 15's that will beat 2 r 12's overall.. in your case where it appears you can barely fit the 2 12's i would definitely opt for a 15.

If your trying to stay around 1000 watts i would get a fi q, cvx, maybe even a 15" type-r.

shoot....1 type r 12 would be nice in there

Or a 15 R

You much be doing something wrong on the box or install, they should hand most any 15s their tails.........given equal specs

If I'm not going to notice a big difference, then I will probably stick with my 2 12s.

For example, I hate on the new rap song "Put On".. when the bass drops REALLY low, my 12s don't really do anything.

Although rap isn't all I listen to, I am slowly moving away from caring about SQ in my car. It's so frustrating listening to my Alessandro headphones at home.. or my bookshelves.. and then going to the car and always being disappointed in some aspect about the car system. Lately, it's been like car audio has been a game I can't win. So, I just want to get low and loud now. I'll handle upgrading my components and rear fill later if I need to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Why do you say a single Type-R would be nice? How would that be better than what I have now?

Better box........sub back port back.....2cu.....32hz(for the low)

Or rebuild that 2 12 box you got there.....3.5-4 cu @ 35hz

that particular song sounds really good on my buddies 2 12" type R's, the box we built for them is 5.5 cubes tuned to 30 hz (about 70 sq in of port). what is your box tuned too?

Tuning on your box might be a little high so your not getting the lows you want. What is your box tuned too?
From what I was told, around 32Hz.

I haven't messed with it in a while, but when I was messing with a test CD with tones, 36Hz played strong. In fact, it may have been the resonant frequency.

So, I'm assuming it's not severely rolling off at 32Hz.
