Looking for a new system, any suggestions welcome!

Whats up guys... it's been a while since I've closely followed the car audio scene but I'm looking to put together a new system this summer. I'd imagine you read plenty of threads like this, but... I'm not looking for anyone to do my design for me, just looking for some ideas and suggestions.

I'm working with about $2,000, willing to get up to ~$2,500 or so if it's worth the difference. SQL is my goal, and I listen mostly to hip hop and metal so I'm looking for something that'll hit hard and low, while maintaining it's punchiness and accuracy...

As far as the subs go, 2x12's is probably my best bet with the space I've got (I drive an '03 Rendezvous) but I'm open to any ideas. Basically I'm curious, for someone who's been out of the loop for a while -- what would you guys do as far as a hard hitting, street beating but tight sounding setup goes within that budget? (given a little flexibility)

i would look into image dynamics speakers jus cause i'm partial .

a pair of ID MAX would probably suit you pretty well. There are so many options though. Does that figure include car speakers headunit amps etc or just subs,box,amp?

Don't forget all the new-style sound sources like iPods, satellite, HD Radio, MP3, DVD, SD/MMC and whatever else is getting dreamed up...LOL! That will help decide your HU and accessory modules.

I like my Alpine parametric equalizer a lot. Do you want to be able to mess around with the tonal qualities to a greater degree than simple bass/treble controls allow?

High power subs means the Big Three. Got any plans for upgrading the electrical?

Yup, it's a complicated but rewarding world out there these days! LOTS of options means you can get down in so many ways and that's the funnest thing about getting into mobile audio in 2008. It sure as heck beats what was around for me in '73...LOL!

If it helps, in the past I've been a big fan of Pioneer and Alpine's HUs, I knew some guys with XXX's and AA Avalanche's in their rides and always loved them... Back when I payed attention those were two of the big ones being creamed over. Or even the Brahmas before they were discontinued. I was always partial to comps from focal, rainbow and infinity -- but I cant remember specifics any more.

The 2000-2500 figure should include the entire system+wiring, ideally.... subs, box, amp/s, frontstage, HU, etc... Just the system itself. I'll throw in what I need to for deadening and install after all that.

As far as additional EQ and other things -- probably not necessary right now... i might visit that as an option some time in the future but aside from standard eq parameters i dont think i'll need to get too scientific, as long as i'm working with a solid install.

I'm hearing some buzz around Fi... the Q looks pretty sexy. What's the word?

i dont think the system i made up is bad and its definitely aims towards SQL then SPL. You could change the headunit if you do not want a navigation/dvd player.

Very cool man, love the suggestions. I've never hear the IDQ's myself but I've read good things about them : ) thanks I'll look into all this stuff and hopefully come back with a possible setup for critiquing
