LMK if you do take that ride i'll meet up with u right outside the state limits

Thanks for the offer, but the main problem is the subs are completely screwed beyone belief.

When you're running 5,000rms to a speaker @ .35ohm, shit is going to go wrong.

For daily beating, thats just too much power. Not just bad luck, just a dumb move on my part running that much power at that ohm load. Id be pretty confident in them taking 4,000rms daily @ 1 ohm or above in a box with a little less port. When I get my stuff, I wanna listen to it. Whether its Type Rs, Treos, Xplods, or BTLs, im going to crank it. No point in having something that I cant listen to for more than 15 seconds.

One thing I will say is dont run 5,000rms to a BTL daily. I dont know how the hell Meade or anyone else does it, but it doesnt seem to work to well. I mean they really took the abuse I put em through... Especially for 2.5x their RMS @ .35ohm in a big ported box. We dropped the 2 top subs today and on one, the tinsels are broken, and in both the cone is seperated from the spider. The coils are a little dark, but definately still playable. The speakers are cut up and waiting for recones. Gotta order em either today or tomorrow. I wont be making the show during the weekend, but whatever. Im just runnin the 2 bottom subs for now. Goin easy on em. They're loud enough for a daily beater until I get it all workin. I mean with 2 subs I can still do hair tricks with both windows all the way down... Anyways, Ill take a pic of the tinsels and cone seperated and show you guys later.

then why did you run it so low?

how are you going to run it next time??

just guessing but strapped @ 2ohms, doing about 3krms to each should be more then enough....

and since meade is running an rf t4k to each, they probably see a good 4-4500rms im guessing.

and x2 on wanting something you can beat and not just show for 15seconds.....thats why i dont like running the sundown at .5ohm....i guess its too much current and aids in getting stinky real quick.

but it will be sold soon and replaced.....

Im pretty sure Id be able to run a T4k to each @ 1.4. Its not the wattage, its the current that heats em up so fast.
yea, doesnt that happen when you run below 1ohm....since then its more current then volts or something??

im no expert now, but i read that on a forum....

a friend did the same on his BL's and snapped the tinsels....

thats why like i said i dont like running my sundown at .5ohm...gets stinky too quick.

Well, here you go. The reason the former is so bent is from the cone slapping it from playing the other subs.

And when you're picking up a heavy sub, make sure the place you grab isnt sharp.

Wait a second here. Either I have noticed some problems with what is going on or I just don't know what I'm talking about.

First of all, 8 Sundowns is not 20,000 watts. They are stable to .5, but they aren't 20.1s, and really shouldn't be run any lower than that except for burps. Even at .25 or .35 or whatever they won't be putting out more than 2,000 watts though, if they even do that. Unless you are on a 16 volt system or something which I know nothing about. 8x2000 is 16,000 watts, so at the very most you are putting 4000 watts to each sub. Anyway, there is no reason to run the Sundown that low, especially strapped. The gains in wattage when you go below 2ohm strapped are negligible and not worth ****ing up your equipment for, unless of course you have unlimited funds which you do appear to have //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Second, and I don't know very much about this, but isn't the resistance only a function of the amp and wiring? In other words, the resistance the amp is seeing from the voice coils makes absolutely no difference on the sub end, right? I thought there was no difference to the subwoofer between 1000@1ohm or 1000@100ohms. If so, it shouldn't make a **** bit of difference what ohms your amp sees because the sub doesn't discriminate.

Edit: I see the Sundowns actually do more than that strapped. At .5 strapped they do 4400, which would give you close to 18000 total watts, but that is only meant for very short burps. I can't imagine what kind of damage you are doing to the amps and subs with clipping and distortion and voltage drops and all that from running them so low while strapped. I highly doubt you are seeing 4400 watts out of them for very long either, once they heat up, in fact I'm kind of surprised you haven't set anything on fire with them yet.

Also, and I'm just curious so don't think I'm trying to harass you or anything...

If you are so intent on utterly blasting your subs day to day, why not go with some subs you know can handle 5000, 10000, or however many watts. Did you consider DD 9518s, 9918s, or Cactus 18s, or TC5200s, or RE MTs, or whatever other uber woofer is out there?

the TC's can handle that much?
they will take it, yes.. i dont know that i would do it though... especially not to gmonk... he cant even keep the btl's going //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif i wouldnt imagine he would have much luck with a sub that is a bit more fragile.. btw- gmonk- wahts the plan now? gonna start over?
