Limited space install....

Ok right now I have a JL 8w7 in my truck. Its in a sealed box at roughly 1.15 cubic feet. My box dimentions are 25 X 10 X 8. My truck is just a regular cab and i'm not willing to move the seat farward to much ( i'm rather tall, 6'3"). I want a ported box but am having trouble designing one due to the limited space. My 10" X 8" (width X hight) dimentions are set, they can't get bigger but the lenth (currently 25") can be extended. I'm cerious if you can have a port be totaly or partialy outside of the box. I don't know if it would be practical or not but it is an idea i had, good or bad I figured it be worth asking about. Either way I would like to design 2 boxes, one around 1.01 @ 40Hz and one at 28 Hz (volume can be determained later, but somewere around 1-1.5 cub) I can figure port freq and what not myself I just need help with the external dimentions. Some reason I just can't come up with any ideas?????

Also the port would be slot built out of MDF no round ports please!

Also i'm cerious to what kind of carpet you guys use to cover your boxes. I have 4 boxes which I would like to sell but are very rough looking. I would like to cover them to hide some of the rough spots. Thanks...

You could do a slot port but I think in the tight area you have to work with a areo port would be better for you.

I know you dont want round ports but take up less space.

Alright 2loud4u took care of the designs for me now just the carpet question. Big props to 2loud!! Awesome guy!! Started right in on the designs and had them for me in no time.

Ok the first new boxes is done with pics...

The new box is much louder then the old sealed. It actully shakes the whole truck pretty good. I'm happly needless to say.

Camera didn't want to get a good pic of it moving but owell.

Also some pics of my dad's and my latest project...

24'x40' garage/shop. Its still in the works, insulation and plywood are coming end of the week as is our electric guy. Once the insulation and what not is here the garage doors will be put on.

i see that some of the sides aren't perfectly square.

practice on something unimportant to get your technique down.

there are rough spots on your boxes?

solution: bondo + sandpaper

after you're done smoothing everything out, use contact cement to lay some carpet on it. check www.bcae1.com for carpeting methods.

How does the w7's mount to the box? I always wondered about it.

You remove the silver trim ring...Peal back the rubber surround....screw it down like a regular sub....fold back down rubber surround....replace silver trim ring...thus concealing the screws
