We just got a new LCD and I like it a whole lot more than the plasma. The black levels of our plasma is pretty bad, and they have scattering red pixels all over the place. Very distracting and very annoying.
Your plasma is ****ed. No kidding. Plasma has much better black levels than LCD OR LED.... it's just a fact. The newer high-end expensive LEDs are
approaching plasma black levels but still aren't there. If you want to compare with the ***** eye, you've got to get out of the stores, which are the worst viewing environment on the planet, practically.
hmm ive got a Sony 46" LCD and am having tons of problems with it.
I hear plasmas use alot more enrgy than LCDs, but im thinking of selling my LCD and getting a plasma as well... you cant beat the size to price ratio of a plasma..
50" for $650 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif
i dont even know what calibration is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
When turned to torch mode (vivid) setting and displaying a full white or bright-color screen, plasma will use more power... but think of it like amplifiers... RMS vs Max power (or Dynamic power, if you prefer).... plasmas almost never use the max power they are rated at, usually quite a bit less. However, LCDs use constant power levels regardless. The avg over time is slightly more with a plasma... saw once where someone sat down and figured the cost difference on an average rate per kW-hour in a years' time when run 8 hours a day... difference was like a couple of bucks per month. Seriously.
I had a 32" Samsung plasma last year and a vizio, both were burnt out in a matter of a few months and ended up selling them. Plasmas cant get warmed up and then cool down too fast and then be turned back on, reults in being burnt. LCDs are alot more stable when it comes to temp conditions.
Get a LCD, you wont be sorry.
Ummm... plasma doesn't and hasn't come in a 32".... ever. Maybe you meant 42"?
And as for heat... plasmas don't take any longer to turn on or off than anything else... stupid argument. Burn-in has absolutely nothing to do with being turned on and off. Nothing. And with a quality plasma and a ****ing brain in your head, burn-in is a non-issue these days. I've gamed for hours and hours on end on my plasma, with never a trace of IR or BI.
I've owned a 65" DLP, 52" Sony XBR6, and a Panasonic 80 series plasma. The only one I kept was the plasma. The DLP was nice, Loved the size and accuracy, but at 60hz, there was a lot of motion blur, but again, due to the size, was great for gaming. The Sony had a great picture but wasn't natural. It looked too fake and too animated. Wasn't a huge fan gaming on it. The plasma, has the least amount of lag compared to the three (240hz), a LOT more realistic picture than the Sony, and darker blacks. Downside to the plasma, gets hotter, and needs a darker room and gotta think about placement because of the glare. plus I got it for only $350.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/boink.gif.91933e72f927f2cefc79aff02573090c.gif
Plasma has no lag, is much faster than even the 240Hz LEDs.... LCD/LED response time is measured in milliseconds, plasma response time is measured in nanoseconds.
Once you've trained your eye to see the lag on even the 240Hz LEDs, it cannot be 'unseen'. It's the goatse/tubgirl of the HDTV world. Once I saw that, my mind was made up for me... plasma 1000%.
Panasonic makes the best plasmas on the market today. Pioneer is the former best, and you can still find some in warehouses once in a while. Samsung is probably second in plasma quality, but lags behind in customer service and failure rates.
Panasonic 1080p S1 58" ~$1700 shipped, 54" around ~$1500 shipped.
The step up to the 54" G10 is around~$1600 shipped.
A 63" Samsung is around ~$2200 shipped. But I wouldn't buy a Samsung, personally.
