Lcd vs plasma.. What one to buy and why??

I agree.

I'm very impressed with the quality of LCDs now...I'm a big fan of the commercial-grade NECs we use for digital signage a lot, but Sharp makes a nice display, too.

Panasonic is about the last bastion of plasma R&D in the bigger sizes.

I agree.

So Panasonic is seeing something all the others don't? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
hmmm...last time i checked panasonic wasnt the only one who made plasmas....guess i must have gone blind

cotjones is one of those salemen
I am NOT!!!!

Director/Producer/videographer/MCO/technology consultant for a university ITSD and television studio.

Small studio = I get to do everything

and //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif PDP is not dead, it's a zombie. It still has the illusion of life because there are people with billions wrapped up in the technology that don't want to give up the big profits they've had pouring in at the time when plasmas were widely considered an upgrade from the current technologies.

The problem with plasma technologies is that it is currently at a balance which yields the best performance. That balance can't be improved.

Improve the contrast, you lose pixel response.

and yes it's an issue a plasma with a pixel response time of .1ms will give TERRIBLE flicker.

Improve pixel response, you lose contrast.

Improve resolution, you need your own 20 amp circuit for 1 tv and a processor that's not available.

Improve refresh rate, you lose both pixel response and contrast ratio.

In LCD however, there is mountains of improvements still to be made and that considering that LCD's have already begun to surpass plasmas.

It's simple. Plasmas are just a low cost alternative to having the "best." Which is currently IMO The samsung LEDs

There is no (consumer available) TV better than the Samsung LED Period.

Interpolation looks like shit. Regardless of what brand or size or budget range, it is ***. I'd turn that shit off in a heartbeat if I got a newer tv.
You are ignorant. Interpolation is only not favorable when there is artistic sacrifice such as in movies. The only thing it does is eliminate juddering. And juddering is heavy in movies. Go to a movie theater and play attension to the motion in bright scenes with slow pans. It's the worst of all, 10x worse than any plasma TV. The basic effect of 120/240hz interpolation of a 24fps source is that it makes it look 30fps. However, when watching 30fps content, sports, most tv, the interpolation is amazing.

I just threw my hard earned dollars down on a Panasonic plasma. With a 50'' window, 1080p, anti-reflective screen, 600hz refresh rate and under a grand from best buy it can't be beat. The old myths about burn in, screen heat, and glare are out the window. Mine has the matte screen and the glare is very close to that of the LCD's but with a better picture. The colors are much crisper than any LCD they had in store for under$2000. If money were no object I may have scooped up one of the Samsung LED's but for a thousand bucks less the current line of Panasonic plasmas are tough to beat.
