I'm coming from a bone stock 2006 Altima SE (no bose system).

Going for an SQL build. I will also list the prices I am expecting to pay so if any of you know of better deals (given that his setup is good), please let me know.

Subs/Enclosure ($250 + $130): 2 Alpine SWR-1243D's in a sealed box to recommended specs (will be custom made).

Amplifier ($250): AQ1200 pushing both subs

Head unit ($150): JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69

Also, I'm pretty much set on the sealed enclosure.

Sounds like it will do fine to me. But in the end, its really up to you and what sound you like. IF it were me, I would take that power and run 1 sub in a ported box. In some cases, with a given power and available space, 1 nice sub on that power ported can be louder and still sound great vs 2 subs sealed. Just my .02

and imo, the R's are not really that great of an SQ sub.

I am really going for the tightest punch I can get out of these 12"s. Basically, I want to really hear the double kicks in rock/metal but still be able to bump a rap song up without the bass engulfing the system.

dkdub, as of now, I am just hoping that the head upgrade will allow me to make the factory speakers more efficient. They handle mids/highs relatively well, imo, and includes a pair of 6x9s. Do you think that will be adequate?

Are your opinions on the Type-R's based off of the previous models, or the new, revamped model? Apparently, Alpine made significant strides in improving the quality and clarity of these subs.

2 10" dcon's in a ported box?

IMO, factory speakers on HU power just will not cut it. Specially with SQ in mind.

Adding 2 12"s to factory speakers on HU power and trying not to "engulf" the system can be asking alot.

Of course, you can always keep you amp gain way down.

I have experience with both. I just do not personally like them.

But what I like and what you or someone else may like may not be the same.

thevic24, I do not necessarily have an opinion on the matter consider my newbish status. I have done a lot of research and from what I have read, the new R's fit my budget and needs. However, I have to acknowledge that I do not have the personal experience as any of you guys in the actual sound, so I take your considerations heavily.
