As a owner of an 11ft albino burm it deeply saddens me to see these kinds of incidents. Just like when you see a pitbull kill a child, it's the owners negligence that results in these horror stories. You can't keep a snake that size in a tied up bag and expect it to to sit overnight without using every bit of it's energy to flex it's way out. Cloth stiching will not hold up against 40-60lbs of pure muscle that can kill an animal twice its size. I have no idea what kind of cage this guy is used to housing this thing in but unless it has bolts on it, the snake can and will get out. My burm cage he came with had small key locks on the doors and eventually those failed and it took a few sliding bolts on the doors to keep him in.
Moral of the story is you have to be respectful and responsible when keeping these constrictors. As long as you follow a few simply guidelines to the housing, caring, and feeding of these creatures and creatures alike they can be kept without incident. Anytime you hear of something like this in the news it's the owners negligence that is the cause. My thoughts and prayers go to that family

Other reports on tbo.com indicate the snake to be as large as 12ft. My burm is just shy of 11ft and is definitly bigger. That snake looks alot closer to 8.5ft than 12ft. Claiming it to be 12ft probably helps the newspaper sell better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Lt. Bobby Caruthers of Sumter County Sheriff's Office said the python was a family pet that apparently broke free from inside a glass aquarium in the home's living room. The snake then made its way into the girl's bedroom and apparently strangled her in the middle of the night, according to authorities. The girl was identified as Shaiunna Hare. The home is off County Road 466, tucked in the middle of pastureland.
Darnell, 32, found the snake - about 8.5 feet long - on top of the 2-year-old this morning after he noticed the snake was missing from the aquarium. He then started stabbing the reptile. Family members called 911 at 9:43 a.m. The child was dead when emergency crews arrived at 10 a.m. She had a bite mark on her head, authorities said.
