kinetik *****

I did not read through the whole thread but let me ask.

Dose you GS have a stock alt?

According to TIS and Alldata, the stock alt for that car is 80A.

To pass a load test, that alt only needs 30A @ 2000rpm.

The voltage regulator is rated for 13.2-14.2V.

The stock alt for that car is already taxed just with the car alone. At night with the lights and ac on, you will have big problems

trying to power everything and charge the batteries.

you definately do not need an H/O alt for that little power...
you def need big3 and what guage is the wire? 0 and still have voltage drop?

did you say you had a toylexotaus?

might wanna check if they use the variable resistance alternator... some honda and toyota ( lexus is a toyota) use them... it may be the problem the voltage drops..

I have seen and even installed and driven cars with way way less wiring on more than 2 times the power with just exttra batts and never had that much problem...

even on stock 80-100 amp alts...
This is going to be your problem if you still have a stock alt in the GS.

I work for Toyota and this is a very common issue we deal with sometimes.

thanks a lot for the tip man. yes im completely on stock alt. and ive been pushing the stock alt for about 4 years now with a system of at least 1000 watts rms.

i guess new alt is definitely the way to go? i just didnt want to spend 4 bills on an alt and then only to find later on that i couldve solved my problem for a lot less money or with out even getting an alternator

When you do go for a new alt, keep in mind that a new "stock" alt can give you the same issues.

As far as I know, Toyota dose not offer a non vari/rest. alt in a stock replacement. They do offer a "stock" HO for

some really BIG $$$. I am not sure if it will fit your GS but I can find out Monday when I go to work.

If you do go the HO way, go aftermarket!!

oh yeah, i can only imagine what a toyota ho alt would cost! lol

i have been looking into alts. but **** these things are expensive. so far im between dc power (customer support *****. ive been trying to order one for like 2 weeks and they cant even do that right) and excessive amperage. excessive amperage seems to be good and they have cheaper prices than dc.

Apparently the "Rectifier Diode/Bridge is a problem on the ALT's and will cause exactly

what you have now.( Just looked up the service bulletins for your year)

That can be changed out by its self but I would replace the whole alt.

An HO will cure all of your problems. Just be sure to upgrade you alt to batt wire and ALL of your main grounds.(Batt to body, to block ect..)

so according to what you looked up, the alt should pretty much be replaced in my case, after pushing it so much?

ive been meaning to just to be on the safe side, but now i think its turning into a definitely.

awesome man thanks. ive pretty much tried everything else, and voltage doesnt seem to get fixed, so i guess alternator is next.

i JUST did the big 3 about a week ago as one of my attempts to fix voltage problems, but that didnt do much either.

what exactly are "ALL" the grounds youre talking about?

the grounds i added are:

battery to chasis

engine to chasis.

battery to engine

Here is a exploded pic of the alt. #7 is the Rectifier.

That will be just fine there.

awesome. now to find a new alternator. i called dc last week and they told me a 180 amp for my load would be good enough. then they said "we'll give you a call back if we have all the parts to build you an alternator" its been a week and a half and i have yet to receive any call or email. lol pretty sad, considering that would have been $400 dollar business for them

do you have any ho alt recommendations?

might be worth to mention. when i turn my car on in the morning volt meter reads 14.0-14.1 volts. but as i drive even with music really low, voltage goes down to 13.7'ish any idea why?
thats not really what your battery is "charged" at technically its what your alt is charging at. when you first start it up it will be charging full bast to get your batt back upt o par. when it gets there it will back off into a normal charging range. most newer vehicles charge a hair over 15 when you start up then back off to 14.xx after a few minutes. Ditch the cap get a bigger batt. kinetik blows. you are better off with a deka. i would find an xs battery. You can find them from 150-300 depending onw hat model you get. i dont think you need a 3100 for that little of wattage. A solid g31 batt should suffice.

sorry didnt read it all. If your alt is stock and thatold that very well could be the problem.. ya 180- would be more then enough. im a big fan of dc and while their customer support is not the best their alts are.next timke you call dc press 5 for kyle and tell him payden sent you and said to make you a good deal on it. and tell him get his *** to work.

id go with iraggi, excessive amperage, and powermaster, either 3 are top notch ho alternators.
