kicker comp 15's fluttering during low bass notes

was wondering if any1 had any ideas. i am pushing about 300rms to each sub. all bass notes play great but the lower notes flutter and sound like crap.

Sounds like your box is a bit on the large side, or if ported, you're playing notes under the tuning frequency.

Enclosure specs? What do you mean by "low frequencies"? That is a very relative term and doesn't mean anything to us. Give us songs or actual frequencies as well as the enclosure information and we can help you.

OK im not sure of the actual specs on the box, i will measure the box tonight and let you know what the dimensions are on it. It is very big and very deep. If im not mistaken kicker comps should take a realativity small box. The song that bothers me the most is Lil Scrappy's "no problems". very low notes. but i think its the same thing you guys think and i say too big of a box, but like i said i wil measure it inside tonight or tomorrow and get back to you guys. im no box expert so ill have to let you guys figure it out!

Is it ported or sealed?

If it's ported, get the port width, height, and how long it extends into the enclosure.

The lowest note in "No Problems" is 33hz. It's not really low but it's getting there. To me, very low notes are between 20-25hz which is half an octave down from where your thinking of low is. Low is very relative.

ok i took one of the subs out of the box, and the measurements are 16" deep, 14.5" wide and 15" tall. this is the inside of 1 of the sides of the box.

Ok, that looks to be about 2 cubic feet per side. That's actually on the small side of things. It could be that you're over powering them causing over excursion or that the alignment they're in is too high of a Q to have the low end sound decent. I'm betting that it is the latter of the two.

You might want to try a larger enclosure. Putting them in 3 cubes each sealed might help you out quite a bit actually.

IF the box needs to bigger than i dont think i can do that. I will sell the subs to someone who doesnt need room in there trunk. the box now takes up almost all my trunk. If i was overpowering them then i think i should start to hear them pop as the VC bottoms out on the back plate but i dont get any of that. I never liked Kicker all that much so im just gonna sell them and get 1 idmax 12 for now and be happy! one of those should kill the 2 15's properly amped.what do you mean by the alignment maybe too high?

Different sized enclosures give different alignments for different subs. The alignment is the Q value of the enclosure and sub pair. Higher Q alignments have reduced low end and peaky upper frequency response and generally sounds more punchy. Lower Q alignments have extended low frequency extension and generally sound smoother and mellow.

Right now your subs are sitting in an enclosure that gives them a Qtc value of .92. That is a decently damped alignment but not too extreme. It's way too high for my tastes.

Could possibly be a leaky box as well.

But anywho, if you're set on getting an IDMax, going from two 15" drivers to 1 12" driver is going to be a big difference. The two 15s should have about twice the theoretical displacement of the one 12, so getting the Max to produce the same output is going to be difficult, though however, the Max will more than likely sound better IMO.

The 15s displace about 4 liters while the IDmax displaces about 2.6 liters. That's not a huge difference but still pretty large. I would bet that the low end will be much more defined and stronger than the two comps but the upper bass will probably be edged out by the 15s. If he goes ported with the max, the low end will dominate the 15s.
