JVC (old) to JVC (new) wiring

I have a 2000 Ford E350. It came with an aftermarket JVC (CD only) unit already installed and it looks like they cut the wires to do it. I stupidly assumed another, more modern JVC unit (with USB drive) would be compatible, but it turns out the plug in the truck is bigger with the pins more spaced out. Of course, it might also mean they are rearranged.

Unfortunately, I could not find any JVC to JVC harnesses. They only make [MAKE] to [HEADUNIT] adapters, no [HEADUNIT] to [HEADUNIT] ones.

What are my options?

Cut the wires, match the colors. Then plug it in.
Unfortunately, I would need to do it inside the car (the cutting). I would prefer to do the wire connections from a desk. Is there no other solution?

By the way, the model in there now is: kd-s5050

The one I am trying to install is: KD-S39.

I don't mind cutting and crimping as long as it is done on a table. It's rather difficult to do it in a car. I am also rarely home to do it when the sun is up.
