Just need inputs...

Alright, so I’ve got a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix with stock everything and no cd changer controls. I don't have a whole lot of money to blow for my project, so i need to know the cheapest, good sounding setup for this.

Anyhow, I’m going to run an external computer mp3 player controlled via pocket pc, so it's all low profile, but i have no way to input it into my stereo system besides an FM transmitter, which would sound like crap. My question is, what's the best way to do this? I don't really even need a cd player if I replace my deck, so my thought was an old tape deck with aux inputs, or something. Just cheap, clean sounding sound. TIA

Thanks for the reply. What do you think the cheapest HU option would be for me that still sounds decent?

EDIT: well, i guess it was just the cheap fm modulator that i had years back that sucked. thanks alot

If I was you I was you I would look into some of the AIWA h/u's. Some of their models have aux inputs on the front of the radio. I dont know why they get a bad rep from ppl on here but mine has worked perfectly. Alltough I do have to advise not getting the very lowest h/u they have. Ive heard numerous times that these will not eject a cd once inserted. But mine has worked perfectly so far.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks, I'll look AIWA headunits. I don't however have to have the input on the front, but it does work. lol So yeah, if i were to replace it i could run the wire to the back anyhow. Any other ideas or cheap solution like a tape deck with aux inputs? Thanks again.

Umm yea actually, you could geta tape deck and use a tape deck converter thingy lol I used to have one but i gave it to a friend when i got a cd player. All it is is it a little thing that looks like a cassete and has a wire coming out of it and it plugs into the haedphones jack on whatever it is you want to listen to.

Well, I've got keen ears(ran sound systems for years) so i would notice a difference between a cheap reciever and a high end one, but for now i just want one that sounds acceptably good for now while i'm broke. lol I'm not asking for a perfect system, just the best cheap system with an aux input that sounds decent. :p Any AIWA models in perticular?

Well i got the Aiwa CDC-X227 and it sounds pretty good for the price you pay. I also like the changing blue/red button illumination //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif it looks awesome in my car at night. If you ask me I think they are overall good h/u's for the money. Mine only skips when I hit a pothole that goes to china, and other than that it pretty **** loud with out distortion. But I also keep the bass turned down on the unit now that I have subs, but yea I think that you would be doin good to just buy one for now. And you might even want to keep it, allthough im plannin on gettin a pioneer deh-p6400 as soon as I get the money and I amy save ten more dollars and get the Premier DEH-P640:D

Thanks, i'll look into that. As for cd playing, I'm not to worried if it skips because i won't use the cd player much at all seeing as how all my cd's will be on the computer running through the aux inputs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
