Looking for a new HU. Looking at spending a Maximum of $350. I'm mainly looking for a SQ unit. Have been looking at Eclipse, Pioneer, Kenwood, etc. Been looking at the eclipse cd8445 , kenwood excelon x890, Pioneer 880prs & 780mp. SQ is of importance.

Would like.. 3 preouts (4-8v)

Ipod Hookup

Steering wheel remote hookup

24 bit D/A Processor

Good signal to noise ratio

Clean THD %

ETC

What would you reccomend and what are the stats of the unit your reccomending and why?

Thanks a lot guys, this is driving me nuts.

I've heard theres a lot of whine from the alternator in pioneers? It seems like theres a lot of complaints about that from these units on here. This true?

Been looking at the Eclipse CD8445 , Kenwood x790 or x890 , Pioneer 780mp or 880prs.

Those are all excellent units, so make your choice based on which control-style you feel most comfortable with, cosmetic appeal, and overall joy-of-ownership.

Which one will make you grin every time you get in the car?

I bought the PRS. Best headunit I've ever owned - I likely won't purchase an Alpine again.

I don't have any whine, and I think there was a thread on it that mostly nixed those concerns. Install is everything. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So you had no noise problems with the PRS ? How come tons of people are? What did you do different that makes you not have the noise?

I didn't do anything special.

Soldered the PRS harness into the Toyota harness, took it out to the car, clipped it in. Power isn't run direct from the battery, and ground isn't run direct to the chassis.

Just plug 'n play.

ok cool...sounds good. So how good is the processor on the Pioneer?

I believe i'm debating between the 880PRS or the CD8445. I think the eclipse will have the cleanest signal though, and I believe has a better D/A processor. What do you guys think?

Pioneer = 5v @ 100ohms / 24-bit Burr Brown DAC / Dynamic Range = 100dB (1khz) / SNR 105dB

Eclipse = 8v @ 55ohms / All digital circuitry with advanced 24-bit DAC / SNR 110dB

Also looking at Kenwood x890

Pioneer seems to work good with ipod though.
