JL xr install

I was trying to install my JL xr650 comp's yesterday and i noticed on one of them the mid cone had been squashed in. So i emailed indoaudio adn they said i could get a replacement sent. But that doesn't matter. Anyway I just swapped it out with my stock speaker to see if it was that damaged and no sound came from it. Is this because I didn't have an amp running it and the stock one didn't put out enough power to push it? or why was this?

Unless you wired something incorrectly you should still be hearing something atleast if its getting some power.
