JL subs

The local shop has been a JL dealer for 4 years or so. You have to take certain things into consideration(well, if you want to be fair, anyway) when comparing products.

Reputations are earned, not just given out. JL has earned their reputation. The local shop has had incredible luck with their products.

This thread is pretty odd, considering, imo, the forums seem to be more flooded with "snobs" who look down upon anybody who buys a well known brand.

x2 bout the anti jl people lol. But imo the point of it being overpriced is WAY WAY WAY more valid than saying its not impressive. BTW I wonder how your dealer has been selling such unimpressive products in town for 4 years.

so what is ur opinion on the jbl gti series? seein that u think u are such a car audio genious and ur sayin dont compare jbl to ma. whats ur opinion on that sub series.

HAHA i'm no where near a car audio wiz, Ill be the first too admit I still have much too learn about car audio. BTW have heard a good amount about that series but never heard them. But would put it against a top of the line jl audio product. Unless you are talking the 6k watt amp... but last I knew JL is not an SPL company.

I wondered the same thing...I mean if they aren't impressive then shops would carry other brands, apparently somebody likes their products...

i guess numbers speak for themselves.... lookin at the top two major teams in the world now as far as spl competition, team pioneer is the record holder and team jbl is right behind them, not "team Just Loud audio". this thread was never intended to be a jl bashing thread, i was just wanting to see why so many people wanted to go with that product.

ok big guy, since u know "chit" why dont u tell me, in ur educated opinion, why jl is so great.... why would u buy the product, and if u dont own it, why dont you, seein that u can get great deals on the net. and if u dont buy off of the net because of warranty issues, then If u had the cash, would u choose that product.

and why wouldnt i drive around and listen to the above setups, just cause the power is there, doesnt mean u have to use it in everyday use...

I am VERY good friends with the guys who run the local shop so I am there quite a bit. I remember when they picked up JL. I think I purchased one of the first W3s they sold. After 3 years or so, they had TWO JL subs come back blown(same knucklehead who just beat the hell out of them a little too much).

As one of the owners told me, "they are easy to sell, low maintenance. You put 'em in, they sound great, and don't break. What's not to like?"

Consider, at the time, a 12W3 was selling for maybe $189-$199, authorized. It certainly was not the cheapest sub in the world, but I would hardly call it highway robbery. I think MSRP was more than that, but they sold below that(as do a bazillion other JL dealers, but when people ***** about JL, they won't acknowledge that).

i cant really say that i want a 950 dollar sub that has a FOAM surround (that has to be pulled back to mount the sub). now i knew that i would probably piss a few people off when i started this thread, but its all in fun. Hiamplitude basically hit the nail right on the head with his reply about the marketing strategy of jl. but as far as the small shops around the country that stand by their jl product line, i have to question their motives... i believe that product has such of a mark up on it that thats why they want everyone to buy it, so they get more money in their pockets. NOT because they really believe that jl is a quality product!!!!

You have got to be kidding me? I don't think the profit margin on JL is any higher than on any other brand the shop carries(and yes I have seen dealer cost lists).

I agree, there are places that will sell JL for less than some major chains(tweeter, freeman's, etc.) because thats where i got mine from(forst my w3v2's then my w6v2). But all people want to do is complain because they saw a rediculous price at one store...

Trust me, its not like that here man. I have never paid full price for an audio equiptment at a store, unless I was there too pick up a few feet of wire I needed right away. Anywayz the only place here I couldn't get to go down on anything, was the place that sold JL. However when I was in NE this guy said he'd sell me a 10w7 for like $380 brand new, the guy was cool as hell and took a liking too me lol. If i had the $380 I probably would be bumping it right now lol. The shop here wants $525 I think... not gonna happen considering I know they aren't paying anywhere near that.

SPL competitions mean abso-fvcking-lutely nothing when looking for a sub to toss into your daily driver. I don't understand why people don't get that? Why look at a vehicle that has $100k+ invested into, that burps at a single frequency for a few seconds (at most) to make ANY judgments about either the products used, or the competing products. Anyone who uses SPL comps as any kind of comparative standard is just idiotically ignorant. Plain and simple.
