"Are" is present tense as well. If you're going to correct grammar, at least know what you're talking about. "Are" is the present plural tense of the intransitive "to be." "Is" is the singular present tense of the same verb. "Is" is correct in that usage, where "are" would be correct if the statement had been "JL amps are the best."and BTW, JL IS the best.. present tense not past...
