My Girlfriend ordered me this JL 10w1v2-4 for Christmas. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/peace.gif.2db28b618ed8d1964ebbe2f5021d2c39.gif

I downloaded the owners manual for this sub and it contained this

JLOwnersManual.jpg

based on this i made the following sketchup design

JLSlotPort.jpg

JLSlotPortFrontBaffle.jpg

I figured that since this design came with the sub that it would probably be the best way to go since it will fit nicely in my vehicle but im also open to other suggestions so feel free to leave some.

Please explain not trying to say your wrong i just don't really know much about ports why a bigger port? Wouldn't JL's specs be suitable? Yes i have considered aeros but it don't know much at all about designing boxes i just designed it to JL's specs in the owners manual for the sub im getting.

You'd be fine using JL's specs, but those are general. There's more that goes into optimizing the sub to your particular vehicle. You'll get good results with the factory specs and it's an easy box to build.

That's what i was thinking this is going in a 99 tacoma xtra cab and the JL spec will fit nicely in the back behind the seats so i figured that would be the best bet. Thanks for the speedy response.

1x11.75 port FTL with the sub being right behind u... u are goign to hear port noise more likely
Please elaborate Im trying to learn as much as i can. Oh and thank you for taking the time to make those drawings I really like the first design you made.

When one side is smaller than the other, the air becomes turbulent as it rushes out of the port and makes a whistling sound. This is port noise... The rule of thumb is to keep the ratio at 9:1 in an attempt to prevent port noise. People also flare their ports in two different ways. Some just use a router and make the edges rounded over. Some use something called "kerfing" which is basically putting small cuts that don't go all the way through the wood at certain points to allow the wood to bend into a 90* degree angle, while making it rounded. This greatly reduces the chance of port noise.

However, for an enclosure that small, I'd go with a round port. (AKA Aeroport) They require less space, and less design work.

And yea, 1" x 11.75" on the port would not be a good scenario, I'd go with 2" x 11.75". Mobeious' first drawing would be a lot like what I would be making for this sub..looks good
