Ive been thinking...

If you run an amp to each coil on a sub...let's say a dual 4...the sub is wired at 4 ohms to each amp correct? Since they are not wired in parallel or series, they are hooked up like a svc..the impedance doesnt change..correct?

there is no such thing as a stupid question, but dam there is such thing as a dumb assumtion... so if you had two SVC 4 ohm subs, and you hooked them up separetly whut ohm load would it be.... thats basically all your doing...

Reason I even asked this is because a friend of mine is arguing with me about it. I know Im right, but I need some replies so I can show him Im not the only one who thinks that way:)

Yes, you are right. Each amp would see 4ohms nominally. It's not a "thinks" one way or the other; it either is or it isn't. And if your friend is disagreeing with you, he isn't right.

ya i asked about this a while bac...but becareful if you do this cause all the gains must be set exactly the same or it will most likely **** the sub up

So then it's possible to run 2 channels from a single amp to a DVC sub without any ill side effects? (Assuming this amp has only one gain setting)

More importantly, how would this be any different from bridging the amp and doing it the old fashion way?

Yup. Even if the signals are different (say the amp does have two gains and they aren't set right), nothing bad will happen.

Depends on a lot of things. There may be nothing different. But, for example, my old Eclipse 34230 was only stable to 4ohm/channel, and could not be bridged. So, there is the perfect opportunity to run one channel per coil on a dual 4ohm/coil sub. Or, if you have a dual 4ohm/coil sub and a 2-channel amp that can't be bridged to 2ohm, you may get more power out of it by running 1 coil per channel instead of running the amp bridged at 8ohm

I currently run one sub off two amps. Not hard to do..just set both gains with a DMM at the same voltage..and you will be perfectly fine.
