I guess it depends on the arc. Some mig welders give off a little arc you can look at for a little while, and some stick welding gives off huge bright arcs. Look at those and you will wake up feeling like you have sand in your eyes.

I do....I can't see through the welding shield...my eyes are not very sensitive to light...which is why I always have several lamps around.

the only time I ever had a problem with it was when I spent around 3 hours straight welding up a desk frame in high school. I could never see what I was doing with the **** helmet on. No fancy auto-adjusting helmets at that cheap *** school
