Is this normal restaurant BS? (tipping thread 2.0)

Probably. I have no interest in the classics. They ****. I've got more important things to do.
aww hell no, you didn't just say that. lol sorry but I gotta defend It's a Wonderful life, watch it sometime then you can complain about it. Besides there is a reason they are called classics and it isn't just because they are old.

I worked for 3 years with Applebee's in the kitchen but not as a cook I worked between the cooks and the servers so I know pretty good what they are going through and many of them just don't want to deal with parties even with the mandatory "gratuity." I personally can't work for tips cause I will work hard but I'm not gonna put on a show to get some extra money and generally people don't pay extra for just busting your ***, gotta have some personallity too (which I generally lack lol) Also as much as I feel the establishment should pay its employees instead of expecting the customers to offer money to them to pretty much make up their salaries I do tend to tip well if they do a good job just because I know its the only way they make their money and that they are for the most part busting their *****. However if they aren't then I have no problem leaving no tip at all.

I've watched plenty of the "classics", enough to know I couldn't care less about most of them. I'd much rather read a book (a real classic, considering half of our ****ing population can't read or spell these days) or just plain surf the 'net.

I can't remember a single time I haven't but I know I have been tempted many a time, and many servers I know deserve it. But like I said I naturally am against tipping so it makes me more likely to not tip, I don't believe in giving money to someone to do something I am MORE than willing to do myself. Generally I just try to stay away from eating out to avoid these conflicting thoughts.

I could never read books for pleasure they just never did anything for me. However I probably spend as much time reading technical articles in car magazines and technical journals as the avid reader does on novels and stories.

I think you should tip the cook. I think they have a bigger influence on the dining experience than the server.
Perhaps, but being a cook myself, I don't feel bad about not being tipped, since my hourly wage is nearly 3x what the waitstaff makes. However, I'd still swap with them, since they usually make more money than me, and I tell them so when they ***** about it.

I never once got a tip in my job and as best I could tell I was pretty influencial on the dining experience, however as I said I can't work for tips and agree on a worker earning his wage. I was in a position called Expo, I get to sort though any ordering mistakes by the servers and relay them to the cooks as well as yell at the cooks to make the right stuff and the right time and make sure that the right side items are on the correct plate, and once everything is all ready get a server or runner to grab up the plates and take them out. Gets to be pretty hectic when your the only person doing this job on a friday or saturday night. In this position many times I was actually ordering around the store manager and others making sure the right things got out correctly.

To all of those who may have gotten the wrong side item, it probably wasn't the servers fault or the cooks fault but someone in my position not paying attention. When ya got 5 steaks in front of ya and they all look the same but one has double mashed instead of mashed and veggies it can get pretty difficult specially when the entire order is already 5 minutes too late and you have 10 tickets waiting behind it.

I found out a year ago or so that my dad had a business idea and was pitching it to the mayor of San Antonio for a ticket purchasing company called Ticketron. He was competing against another upstart company, which ended up eventually winning the bid. That company became Tickermaster. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My dad later died in a drug deal.

I was that close....

havent read the entire thread, but at least they told you about the gratuity, a lot of places just have a little disclaimer at the end of the menu saying that, so you might have tipped around 37% if they had not told you
