Is this normal or do I have a problem?

I have 2 15" DC Level 3's they are said to take nearly 800rms each with no problem and I'm powering them with a DC 1.2K @ 1 ohm said to do around 1600 @ 1 ohm I figure after drop im lucky to be seeing 1200-1400w.

I have a stock 90a alternator (brand new) and a Odyssey PC1500 (little better than an XS D3400) and Big III done with KnuConceptz 0/1.

During the winter I sit @ 14.7v and during the summer like around now I sit @ 13.8-14v. I set my gains and filters with a DMM and I set the gains to match 1200w( i know this is not a solid way to tune your setup.)

Now my problem is if I idle at all my voltage drops to the low 13's sometimes high 12's (I figured this was plenty of voltage to efficiently run my DC.) and I notice after about 15-30 minutes my subwoofers start to heat up. I've NEVER smelt them and it's never really too hot but quite warm.

I obviously am concerned about running this daily and am wondering what I would need to do to run the 1200w daily @ 1 ohm and not get all that heat up. I also have a Sony XPLOD 4 channel running @ .2 ohm (4 speakers run off 2 channel, other 2 channels not in use.)

I guess I just figure a DC would be more than capible with my electrical to provide 1200w and I figure my subwoofers would be more than capable of taking 800w each.

I'm going to be building a new box that's slightly bigger and with quite lower tuning, so I would like to sort this out before I go slamming lowed bass daily in a bigger box.

Might be somewhat of a nooby question but I just can't seem to figure it out I've looked over everything.

cliffs? i pulled out from it that your subs were heating up and your voltage wasnt as good as you had planned. if this is correct you can probably solve both the heat and voltage issue with an alt. dropping like that with gains set to what it should do will cause clipping. which would cause the subs to heat up. you wont always smell it (i leanred the hard way) if im wrong make cliffs. im too impatient to read all that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

Upon further inspection with my hatch open ive noticed on the lows theres like atapping type sound coming from under the dustcaps on both subs it only really happens on the lows i dunno how to explain it I dont think Im bottoming these out box is built to spec and quite small and they are only getting rated.

Also my voltage doesnt seem to be that low full tilt lowest I dropped just now was 13.4v and they still got a bit warm after 15 mins of full tilt idle. I'm more concerned with the sound coming from my subwooofers than the heat at this point. I know the tinsel is hitting both the spider and the foam on the cone not sure if thats a problem since these tinsels are NOT woven. Ugh I'm a worry wart with my car audio and I don't believe I'm much if at all.

Thing is these ALSO have dual spiders not just 1 like the stock version so that also baffles me on how I could be bottoming out if that's the issue, the tapping noise persists even on slightly lower volumes and only real noticable with hatch open and on the low lows.

Also I was assuming if the 1.2k did 1600 @ 1 ohm 14.4v I should be getting **** near 1200 @ 1 ohm 13.5-14v right?
