is this guy full of sh*t?

Well, it has something to do with a EIN number that you can report stolen. If taken to another dealer they have to get a code to allow it to work again if it's been stolen. The code relates to the EIN number. The dealer has to call Eclipse to get the code and they will inform the dealer that it's a stolen unit. It kinda works.

If you send in your registration/waranty card they place the ESN on file. If it's stolen..... it won't work until you deactivate the security........ so the theif sells it, the new owner sees it won't start up. Well they call Eclipse. Eclipse asks for the Serial number. When they see it's someone elses they'll try to get the unit back to you (if it was stolen).

basically all it does is deter thiefs to some extent... it locks out the radio and you can't get it to work again. but if it's gone, most likely it's just gone

I would chalk it up to another marketing tool to sway you to their product. I wouldn't make it the basis for your purchase.
I agree, but it has been effective over the past decade. Ive caught a few thieves.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
