dont cross a car off a list just because of a certain manufacturer...every company has a car i wouldnt touch truthfully, and brand new cars have the same shitty issues they had 10 years ago! shit, after 2.5 years as a bumper-to-bumper service tech at a dealer i can tell you that impala 3.5s externally leak oil from the rear headgasket from the factory, your 5.3 powered 1500/ tahoe/yukon/ anything will be getting a rear main housing seal, your cobalt will be getting front struts at 10,000 miles and then control arm bushings at 15,000 miles, your gm truck anything will be getting more than 1 window regulator, oh and if you have a car yea thats gonna be getting an intermediate shaft before 100,000...lmao

Going to chime in here, I have a '94 Mazda 626 (the 4 door version of the MX-6) with the 2.0L 4 cyl. that has approx. 67k miles on it. I've owned it for two years and have had no trouble with it, I'm putting on about 500-600 miles per week and if I had to pick on anything it would be nice to have a bit more HP. Thay are a fun, cheap car to drive. The 5sp is a good tansmission, the auto's are weak. They are sister cars to the Ford Mondeo (which the Ford Contour was based on).

I'm not making a whole lot of sense tonight, but just wanted to say that they are a good car if they've been taken care of.

I just dont know what to do myself man.. I have the 2002 diamante, ( which Im gonna fix and drive ) but thats got 120k miles on it too.. I also have my "Beater" which is a 96 grand am gt, currently its just the car with the stereo in it, that has seemed to out last every car me or my friends have owned with 180k miles on the 3.1 v6 and its still going strong, but its almost time for retirement

So once the Diamantes fixed I would also like to have a good reliable fun vehicle, the grand am will always be a "emergency " backup car , but not the daily driver.. thats Hopefully gonna be the diamante.. But where Im confused is , where to go, Import / domestic, Muscle/ Tuner... And I know its pointless to ask other ppl what car to Buy , but Im just trying to get some ideas.. So far Im leaning towarrds a mustang GT or Cobra, around the 2000 yr.

you are the 1st person to praise Mazda ive heard or read about since I started looking at this car. But you have a totally different drivetrain and motor.

Im just thinking to myself .. spend 2k on a car that MIGHT be expensive , and take a risk ( who knows , I may get 300k miles on it without ever putting a dollar into it, Or like someone on here said , It might nickle and dime me to death

Or do I just save that 2000 bucks and put it towards the Mustang/ camaros/ g35s etc etc Ive been looking at

OR.. do I just buy a civic or accord and call it a day being as it seems they are obviously praised as reliable and cheap to fix

This is what I'd do. I'm actually thinking of getting one myself next year to drive to school and stuff.

that monte is probably a 3.1 and will probably run until 250k with a few preventative measures. Sounds like you want a fast car that's old and theyre usually beat up. Why not look into Integras?

well 97 isnt old, but its basically the same car I have .. my grand am is a 3.1 with 170k miles and still runs great, but yea Im confused myself on what Im looking for or really wanna buy.. The civic/ accord is in my head, but I really would like a nice muscle car as well .. And I do realize that cars made for performance are usually beat to shit, thats why its kind of tough to find something used by an old guy who babies his car, and its never been beat on. Ive seen plenty , but its just bad timing , or I was never looking to buy

My buddies dad has a 2002 corvette ( C5 i think ) loaded with the z51 package hes trying to sell for 20k.. But If I could afford the car the insurance would kill me

Thats the reason I was looking at the older 2000-2001 mustangs and camaros
